What function in the PDA do you use? And how do you use it? I always see Items with zero floor locations and we have the item in the backroom locations.

First thing you do is put down your pda and pick up your walkie. Switch that to channel two. Say "Backroom, Can you pull an item for me?" then they respond "sure, just a moment." then you go " Let me know when ready" then they say " Ok, give me the numbers" then you go "the dpci is xxx-xx-xxxx". Then you go to backroom and grab the item and give to guest and put extra ones on the salesfloor.
To subtract an item, you go to SUBT in web apps and follow the prompts.
Too vague, cant pull an item with just following the prompts.

If you are not certified, go to channel 2 to call the back room, as ihaveadream says or ask Lod/tl to help you pull the item for the guest. If you type in the dpci, use 49 first, then the number as jack says. You can scan the shelf label too.

We stay on channel one.....then if someone needs the back room they say...can someone in backroom respond...then we switch to ch 2.

We were told to stay on ch 1...so that if a call button goes off near the backroom and if no one else can get to it....we can try to get it .

I would ask a backroom TM or a TL. Also if you are a seeing a lot of empty spots you should tell the LOD or the area's TL.
They can probably scan the area or have the instocks team go through it. Much more efficient than calling each DPCI one by one to BR-TM.

I was mainly asking to get something for a guest. Way easier than asking the lazy backroom

I'm going to guess you've never worked in the backroom. Sometimes it gets busy back there when they are pulling all those things you have to put out and backstocking all of those things you didn't put out and preparing the line for the truck and disposing of the garbage that all of the under 18's can't and pulling the price changes and getting flexible fullfilments.

I do wish there was some basic back room training for new TMs. At my store, everyone had at least one cashier shift or a hardlines shift at some point during their training period. It helped us learn the store layout, and how to push if needed. Sales floor team knowing how to pull some of their own requests would be a massive help on those hectic days where we don't seem to have enough people in the back room. This, of course, excludes items that require use of equipment.

Although, I don't blame the team member cause its a lack of training...I want to get so irritated when someone from the sales floor comes to the BR and says do you have xyz? They don't bother giving you a dpci or anything. One time a guy came back and asked about a pair of shoes...I said I need a dpci...he said well I didn't bring it , I will just look where are the shoes kept...I showed him the shoe aisles turned around and started to walk away...then he said I will be right back with the dpci...in my head I was screaming ....really, what a bright idea

If you have to ask, you should really leave it to backroom...I don't think any backroom member wants you walking around with half an idea of what you're doing. If you notice empty spots, maybe get with your hardlines TL so he/she can either get you trained in that or can cooperate with BR to pull the necessary items for you.

I for one like the fact that freakingamazing asked ....I know some team memners ( including new etls ) that go to the back room and don't know what the hell they are doing and they wont ask...I would rather someone ask and k now how to do it correctly than them not ask and do it wrong. I have been doing the logistics process for over 17 years and I still learn new things every now and then. Knowledge is power

The point being that he should actually be trained and shown this, not just asking people on the board and then just giving it a shot.

I've picked up more tricks and little lessons here than I do at my store, with the exception of our POG TL, who is an absolute wealth of information.

Training in store is good, but second best is getting taught the mechanics of it by knowledgeable people. Only training that gets done is if you're someone's "pet", at least at my store.

The first step is asking the question....if I waited for someone to "train" me and didn't ask questions or show interest...I would had never set foot in the backroom. I love working in the back room ( most days ) and take great pride in what I do back there....so sometimes you never know .
