I have been a TL for a few years now and I honestly feel like I've barely started learning everything I need to be successful in my position. Quite honestly I'm failing miserably at my job. My peers try to lift my spirits that it's not me, it's the company but I'm pretty sure it's just me. I have no good ideas, I'm basically a "yes man". There are TMs that have more ideas and knowledge of my area then me. I feel like completely lost in a hole when I'm at work. I constantly wish that I had never applied for the TL position(although I do enjoy the rotating weekends & pay, it doesn't seem to help my state of mind). I don't know if I'd be more successful if I was in a different area of the store, but I have thought of demotion a lot. Only problem is that you pretty much have to prove yourself incompetent through a doctor or move in order to demote.

Has anyone ever felt this way? Do you have any motivational quotes or ideas on how to get through the day? I'd ideally love to get another job but until that happens I'm trying to figure out what to do with my target career. I can't honestly take much more of this leadership role I'm in and I have nobody to blame but myself for it.

I can honestly say its not you. It more towards the training you receive as a tl that makes or break your time at target. I ve seen tl and tm with great ideas alike but no way in to using them because some are unreasonable or just plain time consuming. If you have been fired yet or at least being performanced out then you shouldnt worry so much and try to enjoy your team and position until you decide to leave for greener pastures.

if it's motivation you want...

that's it for now !!
hope this motivated you today !

A Leader doesn't NEED to be the one coming up with new and good ideas... It certainly helps, yes, but it is a much better quality to actually recognize someone else's idea, and to implement it successfully. If your TMs are coming up with good ideas, you should Listen and if they are worthwhile, lead the charge in implementing them, while giving the original TM credit, always.

The #1 quality of any leader should be to listen to their "subjects" as well as to recognize Good Ideas from Bad Ones.

I am willing to bet that their are THOUSANDS of Team Leads out there who wish they had TMs who suggested good ideas to them. So in fact, you are lucky.

So I'm not a complete failure? Yay! It's tough to feel like I'm successful when the company is run the way it is now. I feel more pressure to do everything right and I feel like I spend most of my days reacting to things I "should've" seen coming. I guess I just have to keep rolling with the punches and look to you guys when I need some resassurance =)

The bright side is, being in an assistant management position looks better on a resume than a team member.
