Anyone hear of this "My Time" schedule software that the company will be rolling out towards the end of this year? Havent heard much about it, but hope its better than what we have now...

Yep I heard its getting rolled out in phases though, so the transition will probably be pretty rough if I had to guess

Remember when MAX rolled out? Oh you will be able to see your schedule from home and request time off within 3 months....within 6 months....it should be soon.... It is being revamped! I just want this company that currently has an IPhone app to figure out how those of us with MACs can see our checks with our computers, get to the discount website with our computers etc. For a computer savvy company they are pretty flipped stupid when it comes to Apple equipment. I know that you can access it by standing on your head and turning around 3 times on a full moon (okay kidding but to get it to work is a PITA) I just want to point and click.

On the technology subject, it would be nice if the IT team in India would figure out a way to get the PDA/LPDA to run off the stores' WiFi network instead of the antiquated bay stations in the ceiling. I asked an ETL about this and got a look that made a deer in the headlights look seem like a look of extreme knowledge.

Ugh, let's not talk about PDA connectivity. When Sandy hit back in November, we were open but on generator power. My ETL-GE/GSTL office was adjacent to the control room, so luckily the power outlet and ethernet jack in there still worked. I was smart enough to try to use the computer, despite my ETL-GE swearing the internet wouldn't work. PS: it worked. I was able to get on and knock out PCV that day, which got me mad props from my STL. It also allowed my ETL-HR/HRTL to do the schedule on that Wednesday instead of having to go to another store.

Now - the PDA issue. There was a big metal box in our backroom that controlled the PDA base stations. My SFT said it wasn't connected to the backup generator, so PDAs would be down until the main power came back on. After we heard it would be a week, I saw a collective *sigh* from my leadership team. No PDAs for a week meant no pulls, cafs, autofills, truck push, etc.

I suggested running an extension cord from the control box to a generator-controlled outlet. PDAs were back up a minute later. The access points were powered by the generator, but the network controller wasn't.

*sigh*

Pretty sure the LPDAs run off regular 802.11 wifi

I believe when they added Guest WiFi, they just configured a second SSID on a separate VLAN, I may be wrong though. I know we had the WIFI before, because we had Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers in the control room.

My store has several dead zones, like your RF only has one red bar for signal strength. No difference between the LPDA and PDA for reliability. Annoying when you are trying to use item search for a guest or doing the SDA or PCV. Many times we have missed task completion because a user is locked in a task and someone else cant get into that line on the task list.

I never got the complete picture, whether it was some variant of 802.11a or a bluetooth-based connection.
