Hi, first time poster! I'm a front end team member, and wanna be GSA. I recently got coached because my STL believes I cause problems with other team members. My STL wanted my TL to give me a corrective action, but my TL really wants me to promote and so he gave me a coaching. For my coaching, for three months, I am not allowed in any other places in the store, which I am crossed trained in all besides the back room, and I have three food ave shifts a week. Do things like this normally happen with a coaching? I am also moving to a different town in the fall for college, will this effect me transferring? I am taking this coaching and I'm gonna fix my behavior, but are having rules like this after a coaching sound normal? I've been really uninspired, so I'm hoping this is normal, and I'll be able to move past it with my STL and ETLs. Thank you much!

Haha, are you for real?

What were the circumstances of the incident?

I've been with Target for 8 yrs and have never heard of anything like this! 3 months is a long time.
I would just stay a cashier or whatever your title is. GSAs only get .25 pay increase from what I remember. Not even worth it. Well, to me anyway...
When it comes time to transfer the other store will want to know if you've had any coaching or are on corrective action and your attendance. You might wanna think about (when it's time) letting them know the circumstance and what you did to correct the action.

Coachings don't have formal repercussions like a corrective action.

Your STL hates you.

Is there any validity to you causing problems though?

I'd actually get a dollar raise! I really want to promote, so just being a regular team member isn't an option. I can understand why I got the coaching, I told my GSTL that one of our GSAs wanted to transfer, and our STL freaked out because we only have two
GSA's right now, and I have learned the hard way to keep my mouth shut. It's just weird because I've never heard a punishment like that for a coaching..

Wait. You told a gstl that a gsa wanted to transfer and you got coached???? o_O I had to read that like 4 times.
Man, if that was the bar set for coaching, I shoulda been coached every day I'm there! LOL
That coaching just doesn't sound right. Your stl sounds like an ass on a power trip.

This is most likely not the reason.. bosses love snitching ..it gives them a heads up on something coming but if your not allowed to work in other areas then it most likely something you did in other area.. I been coached and stuff before and always worked multiple areas ..anyways if this was the real reasons you gotta improve relations with STL.. because any promotions are upto him

I got coached because my STL believes that I cause problems with other team members, basically causing drama, but he only talks about one incident, when I snitched on a GSA who wants to transfer. I don't think it was from another area, because my Hardlines TL adores me, and kill it AAR and REDCards in Electronics. He's pushed for me to come to Electronics, but I really love the front end. I feel like they are trying to push me out, but I'm still getting scheduled 35+ hours a week. I don't know what to think of the whole thing really, I'm just gonna take it and move forward and try and do better.

I have never heard of anything like this. Your store leadership seems to be on another planet.

Take it and move forward? You sound like you don't even know why you were coached . I would speak up and ask what the issue may be, then try and do better. Don't just lay down!!

Well if that GSA did not appreciate you making public their plans, you in a way would be a meddler of other TMs affairs.

Keep in mind that GSAs are (typically) regarded higher than regular Tms, and if they complained about you snitching, they'll probably do something to not lose a GSA.

I recommend not getting into a habit of digging into other Tms business and spreading rumors, it has a way of biting you in the ass.

First off, if the GSA is telling others that (s)he wants to transfer, this is not a rumor. If anything, the GSA should be at least talked to about saying things that could negatively impact team morale. The GSA is a leader of the front end. I'm not recommending coaching, etc., but a "little talk". There's more to this than gossip about a GSA, IMO. Think a bit harder about your conversation, because this isn't it.

Even if the GSA tells someone it is unprofessional to continue spreading their information.

Sounds like they think you're trying to manipulate your way into that GSAs spot.

I believe this 100%. This is how my store "operates" as well. I got "coached" for something just as stupid recently...talking to my TL about something before my ETL. The ETL didn't care that the reason I told the TL first was because the ETL wasn't THERE, I still got coached for it.

Wow!

From what I can gather the rx etl is a lot more involved in day to day business than other etls.

Seems like an odd coaching if they weren't there though. What was the issue?

Would it be bad to ask for a transfer so soon after coaching? I've been thinking about just starting my transfer and switching stores ASAP. I basically got coached for being a snitch, and that coaching doesn't really bother me. It's the punishment. I'm only 18, so I don't have much experience, and so I'm learning the hard way, leaders don't snitch.

You're 18, I highly doubt you are infallible in this. Just take it as one of life's lessons and learn from it.

You might not think your punishment is fair, but you acknowledged you messed up. Don't waste your time trying to fight it, you will get no where. I speak from life experience.

You are probably going to have trouble transferring so soon after a coaching. Heck, i have probably the cleanest record you can have and am having a hell of a time with my transfer.
