Anyone else getting to be a test store for the prepaid redcards? We are rolling them out in a couple weeks. Looks like they are going to be hosted by AMEX and can be used outside of Target too.

We had those a while ago and were discontinued. The card can only be used at Spot, and the guest can add money onto the card using cash or debit only, with a $3 fee to load money. We have a few guests that use them when shopping for leisure to avoid overspending.

If it can only be used at Target, how is it any different than a giftcard? Besides the extra $3 to load $ on it

You actually will be able to use it elsewhere and you get the 5% off, free shipping, etc. with it. It just looks like it's going to be some headaches on our end with it.

We don't sell them but have had A couple of people tried to use them. There were problem with one of them because the guest wanted us to reload it. Our store wasn't set up to do it. He had to call the number on the back.
I think until they have all the stores doing it, it is going to a big challenge

Do they count toward conversion? Those would be an easy sell to some of our guests who don't have checking accounts and horrific credit.

I dunno, just imagine once these go company-wide.

"These are easier to sell so conversion is upped to 8%"

My god, if we have to start pushing pre-paid gift cards like we do credit and debit cards, I will flip shit.

I see quite a few of these prepaid RedCard Amexs. And our store does not even have them. Are you guys seeing them?

We don't carry them, but I have done reloads of them at my store. The way to check if your store is setup to reload them is pretty simple: swipe it through the card reader and if it gives you a reload option then you can do it, if it just starts a receipt lookup you can't. I don't see the point, $3 per reload is a bit much. Hell I try to stay away from any banking fees at all.

There's no fee to reload. My store has had them for months, no fees of any kind, ever.

My stores must've been a pilot store since we've had those before Christmas. There's no fee to reload them but the only annoying kink is it won't let you fill more than $1,000 at a time (says it's too low) so I end up having to do it in increments.

Our store doesn't offer them, but one of our resellers has one. He'll buy a few hundred dollars worth of iTunes gift cards and pay $1 on his prepaid card and the rest with cash and he gets the 5% off the entire transaction.

I find that hard to believe because if the guest splits payment, only the part on the REDCard gets the discount. I can't imagine that it would work differently on a prepaid card.

It doesn't work that way. He saves five cents in the scenario described.

Target makes money off them because of shopper loyalty, much like the credit/debit cards. People like to save 5% and now they can save 5% and have crappy credit. So where ya gonna shop? Target! And Target pays a shit ton for transactions made with a bank's debit or credit card.

How is it desperate to offer a means for people to save money while Target makes money?
