Archived The Big & Dandy Backroom thread!

The amount of stress and physical pain I don't feel anymore is incredible. I had no idea how much it was hurting me until I left.

Research, CAFs, EXFs, FFs... The correct answer is that you need to pull all of them now, simultaneously. That's the only way to avoid getting yelled at.

Archived So Today a Sales Floor TM asked me why the BR/Flow Team Members are so dirty.

Yeah, handle dusty dirty boxes for hours and hours every week and we'll see how squeaky clean you look. Not to mention the grease on the equipment (esp the baler) that always manages to get on you. Still, there are some people in logistics who never showered, I swear. I know that you get sweaty...

Archived Simple Advice for New ETLs

I made this topic because we got a new ETL. She walked past me numerous times while she was shadowing the STL, but never acknowledged my existence. However, she had no problem calling back on the walkie when she needed an item pulled. I don't even know this woman's name; she made a bad first...

Archived Simple Advice for New ETLs

Introduce yourself to every team member you come across as soon as you can, and not just those who you are in charge of. First impressions matter so much, and taking a moment to just say hi, I'm so and so, I'll be in charge of whatever department, makes a big difference.

Archived Anyone else hate their job?

In the course of four years, I have gone from "meh" to loving my job, to hating it, and now, I am indifferent, because, during my period of hatred, I realized that life is too short to spend 40 hours of your week doing something you hate. Retail has an insidious way of making you feel like you...

Archived The Big & Dandy Backroom thread!

I always leave at 9 pm. Management would not be happy if I used extra hours. And the ETL would rip me a new one for pulling 20 pallets of price. Our price change team is slow as shit and has a bad habit of calling in all the time, so those pallets would be sitting on the line, taking up precious...

Archived The Big & Dandy Backroom thread!

Today was a real test of patience. On my own after 2:30. Guest requests and FFs out the wazoo. 3 o'clocks are 1.5 hours. Those rolled bad. 4s are even bigger. Rolled those too. 5s are 1.75 hours. Had to stop at 6:15 to take my lunch before I hit compliance. Came back and finished the 5...

Not my experience in back to school. So much of it goes out when it's repushed. It feels like such a waste of time to put it away and then pull it back out the very next hour. ADDED: Oh, and a question for y'all. Let's say FDC is coming tomorrow and you need to get the coolers and freezers...

@asidius , that's what we've had today, too. Thankfully I have double coverage this year! But the line is full of leftover freight and the dock doors are covered with CAF pulls. Craaaazyyy

    Archived Your ETL-HR.

We've been through 4 HRs in my 4 years at Spot. First was bitchy. Second was awesome, though my faith in her was a little tarnished when my sexual harassment case was mishandled. Third was an empty headed idiot. This latest one isn't much better. I'm much more comfortable with the ETL-Log than...

Archived Feel the logistics team is the only people strong enough to pull heavy boxes from the top shelves

We have a couple of guys who can lift those big boxes of detergent one handed over their heads. No surprise that they tend to stick them on the top shelf instead of shuffling things around so the lighter boxes are up top. Too bad I'm not as strong. I tend to figure out very quickly when I'm...

Archived Does your LODs even care what the closing BRTM is doing?

One of the new ETLs used to yap at me every time a new FF dropped in. While I was logged into Redwire. Every time. So it would be like... "Beep beep beep" *toggles over and enters the FF batch* LOD: "Hey StackerMistress, looks like another FF came in!" Me: ".... yeah, I'm pulling it right...

Archived Does your LODs even care what the closing BRTM is doing?

One of the best ways to get on my good side as a new ETL or Sr TL is to not get up my ass all night when I'm closing. You can always tell who's new to the job because they call back or walk back every 15 minutes to see what I'm doing and what my "plan" is for the night. Eventually they realize...

Archived Unorganized ETLs and Other Complaints

I'm normally sympathetic to these kinds of rants, but wow, your entitlement is huge. It is your job to ask about those stupid redcards. Doesn't matter if "nobody else does it." And ETLs have about a million other things more important to worry about than remembering to sign off a shift swap for...

Archived Logistics TMs, take care of your backs.

I recently had some imaging done on my back to try and figure out what was causing nerve pain in my lower back and legs. Turns out, I have some congenital spine defects (slight scoliosis and a screwy sacral vertebrae), which, combined with 4 years of backroom work, have given me the spinal...

    Archived Back to school

We have a continuous backroom, but OFCE and SEA1, 2, and 3 are at opposite ends (all the SEAs are in one aisle). OFCE never got properly cleaned out after last BTS extravaganza, so I have no idea where we're going to cram everything. I hate BTS so much. It feels just as busy as fourth...

    Archived Hot, hot, hot!

Our sales floor is usually icy cold during the summer. We get old people complaining about it all the time. Meanwhile the backroom is an oven. Not fun when you're just 15 minutes into your shift and already sweating. I wish we could wear shorts back there...
