It's been happening at my store. A lot.

For some reason there's a ton of items in electronics that I have to take off the shelves because they're not supposed to be released yet, including almost everything Disney Infinity related(they tried putting things out weeks before yesterday).

Is this going to be a common occurrence now or is someone just not doing their job right?

Well your entertainment specialist or electronic TL or Hardline TL or ETL Hardlines or ETL Salesfloor are suppose to be responsible for that. It is there job to inform electronic team members about street dates and what is coming out every week. What I normally do and my old entertainment specialist would do is get a copy of the weekly ad a week before it comes out so you can see what is new that week and prepare for it. Because guest will ask on the following Sunday is this movie in stock when the ad clearly says "In stores on Tuesday!". What probably happen tho is someone did a revision where disney infinity stuff is going, tied it, and put a batch in the gun for it. Then the backroom team member pulled all the items before checking the date on the boxes. And an electronic team member probably pushed to the floor before checking the box too. Some things to remember new cds, dvds, books, and games come out on Tuesdays. The only exception is Nitendo. They like to release there games on Fridays and Saturdays sometimes.

And one thing that helped us out was in the electronics lock up was a special section for just street dated stuff. It helped our backroom not pull street dated stuff or call to the floor "hey do you really want this video game? The date on the box is Tuesday and its Monday morning?" and POG would tell them to pull and stage it with a big note "DO NOT PUSH UNTIL xx/xx/xx"

But you are doing right by pulling it off the shelf, and mention it at huddle that if you see a street date sticker, and the date has not passed you better ask before you push it.

The Disney Infinity stuff pulled like a week before it was supposed to go out, no idea what prompted that. It sat in our backroom until yesterday. They also killed the pog early, there was a big empty spot for like two weeks.

This actually raises a somewhat related question:

If something that's not supposed to be out gets put out by someone else, would I get in trouble for buying that item if it goes through on the register?

Actually, you wouldn't get trouble because the register would not let you buy it. When someone scans it the register will say "Do not sell item until w/e date it comes out."

There was a redwire about it. It said it dropped the set a week early because it was so intensive. New display, new backer, so on. Your TL or an LOD should have read the redwire and communicated that.

So they expected us to set a week early and leave the product in the backroom for a week before putting it out?

The more they pay attention to themselves, the less they pay attention to things like.. Food safety and contracts

What our store did. We did a sign hacked together saying product would available on the date it released. So it looked bad but it was explained to guests and at the same time told flow "no product until 9/xx/14 . It worked.

You could of just set it up and the tie the revision and just flex out the new product until the release date. It is what we did for LP1 and LP2 at my old store.

Now I understand. Having the info on Redwire pretty much guarantees that the TMs who actually need the information won't have it. Before Redwire I read the relevant message boards and knew what I needed to do. Last time I mentioned I didn't know about a Monday NR my TL said I should have seen it on Redwire. Apparently some (or a lot of) TLs and ETLs don't know that TMs don't have Redwire access!

TM's do have RedWire access. I can log onto it from any PDA.

RedWire is a true mess. It's so hard to find relevant information on there, even when you are the intended leader (my Leaderboard is empty unless I go to "All Store"). The Disney Infinity charade was due to a revision that tied a week early, as stated by BHNA. I knew people at my store would have screwed this up so I elected to not even tie the revision that week and left it unset. We blitzed the set this last Tuesday of the release and just had to help a few people who came in right at 8am before we got the product spider wrapped and on the shelf.

As for the opening topic, sometimes if you have a new TM stocking Electronics or people not paying attention to the dates on UPS shipments, street dates just kinda find their way to the floor, unfortunately.

This is seriously my biggest complaint about work right now. My etls don't give me the information until after its passed. I had to log in for my hr so she could see that mine is just blank when I log in.

Even if your home screen in redwire is blank you can see everything under leader view, then store view. I rarely see anything unless I dig in store view. But I refuse to rely on my tls to keep me informed in a timely manner.
