    Archived TM and cell phones

In my personal opinion, based on my experience in retail over the years, the whole no cell phones thing is just fighting a hopeless battle and one that's not really worth fighting. If someone is say, talking on the phone while waiting on customers then yeah, I have a problem with that...

    Archived Scanning IDs

As for stings, I've personally had about 4 run on me and I passed the test everytime. Best one I've seen though, wasn't even run on me. It was in summer and I was out on the floor finishing up a truck. This girl came in, cute as hell, in short shorts and little tank top she was falling out...

    Archived Scanning IDs

I maintain it's stupid law. If you are obviously old enough, if I personally know you, if I've check your ID in the past, etc. then I should not have to continue to check your ID. To make it even stupider and I'll say the state, I live in Tennessee. We have one set of laws for beer and...

If you mean the LAW, as opposed to Target policy then yes, it varies greatly from state to state. I've no idea what Target corporate policy is but the laws regarding ID for age restricted products vary greatly.

    Archived Scanning IDs

No need to be defensive at all. I was working at a convenience store when they passed the mandatory ID law here. The law was passed but it was X number of days before it went into effect. The owner of the store decided to go ahead and make it store policy and so we were carding everyone...

I have to say, neither one of you were quite right in that one. In the state where I live, it is state law that you have to card for alcohol sales, regardless of age but that isn't the national norm. The way it used to be here was it was at the discretion of the seller and from her reaction...

Archived 45 not allowed in target cafe

I'll repeat what I said before. Customers are morons. It doesn't justify treating your team members as inferior.

    Archived Getting Called In

I just thought of one of those kind of retail stories you try to repress. It was Saturday afternoon, my day off, I was sitting on the couch, drinking some beer and watching TV. My phone rang and I was stupid enough to answer it. The girl on the phone said they had one cashier call in and...

    Archived Interview time!

LOL. Yeah, I've seen some online applications like that myself. Not this time around, but back the last time I was looking for a job, I had a store's website tell me that I "didn't meet their criteria," without ever telling me why. I can manage a store but I didn't meet the criteria to run...

    Archived Interview time!

I don't want to keep beating a dead horse, but... I showed up for my Target interview in dark gray Dockers, an open neck dress shirt, dress shoes and I was about as polite and professional as you can possibly be. I also have years of relevant experience but they didn't hire me. I was also...

Archived Starting to get fed up.

Yeah, but I'm actually the opposite. I don't really mind working back of the house. I'm not saying it would be my first choice for a job but to me, it's not THAT bad. It's dealing with customers in food services where I end up wanting to strangle one of them. Something else that you get...

Archived Starting to get fed up.

Well, I've seen that one go both ways. Sometimes a big, beefy guy can get a point across whereas someone else couldn't. Other times though, a sweet young thang who can smile and bat her eyes is far more effective.. It just depends on who the customer is. The sweet young thang can also...

Archived Starting to get fed up.

Here's a great example of why I hate food services. One night, I was working the deli, which wasn't even my job. I was a front end manager who was drafted for deli because they were short of help and the store manager knew I'd worked in delis in the past. We sold meat and cheese by the pound...

    To that one guest

That's why they make hand sanitizer. I've handled plenty of money over the years that came out of a bra and some that came out of even worse places. I also one had a cute little customer who had her money in her bra. When she pulled her money out, something else came out with it... She was...

Archived Starting to get fed up.

I've never worked for Starbucks but I've hated every food service job I've ever had. As annoying as customers can be in general they are ten times worse in food services. But hey, that could just be me.
