After 90 days, can I switch hours or departments (hired as a Inbound/GM), or would that limit my hours I get?

Hey all, I recently got hired on at my Target for inbound/GM - which at my store starts at 5 or 6am and ends at 1pm-2pm.

The question I have is, after 90 days would it be possible to switch departments to just GM or even be cross trained so I'm not working every shift at 5am? I'm totally cool with it for now, but once the semester for Fall starts in August, when I have in-person classes, I'd rather work in the afternoons. In addition to this, if I were to switch or be crosstrained would that be limiting my available hours? On the phone my HR ETL said that I would be getting 35-40 hours a week consistently because they need people for Inbound-GM at my store, so I wouldn't want to put that away.

Anyway, if anyone has any answers it'd be greatly appreciated!

Leadership may let you switch departments after 90 days, or they may not, depending on the circumstances at your store. If what HR says about you consistently getting 35-40 hours a week turns out to be true, it’s likely that it’s difficult for your store to fill Inbound-GM shifts, in which case they may not let you switch, or if they do your hours will be cut significantly. If you are actually scheduled 35-40 hours consistently, my advice would be to stay where you are and not risk losing them. Also, asking to switch departments may get you in leadership’s dog house, depending on the personalities of your leaders and on how much of a hassle it would be for them to replace you in your current position. Just saying. Good luck, hope it works out well for you.😁

Moving to a different department or getting cross-trained is usually possible after your 90 days, but it often depends on where they need the most help. If they specifically hired you for those early hours, just make sure to communicate your school schedule changes as early as possible.
