I work at guest services and wondered why so many people return air mattresses & coleman quick pumps. Does that only happen to my target? the guest always says the pump didn't work or something..

It is common for there to be problems with those products. But it's just as common for people to take it for a trip and then return it once they're done using it. That's why the return policy states they can only be exchanged for other similar items once opened or used.
And yes, my team does actually enforce that.

lol. my gsa ALWAYS uses the auth code of the day to return both of those items

I was just thinking about posting an air mattress topic today. I know we have an "exchange only" rule for opened air mattresses in order to stop people from just using and returning. It's for our protection, right? Well, I have some people whom abuse the shit out of that policy, and are constantly exchanging air mattresses. I have one guy whom has exchanged his air mattress maybe 5-6 times? He clearly uses it as a normal mattress, meaning, daily use. I imagine that is NOT the intended purpose for a cheap, $40 air bed. So inevitably they break, and he comes in and exchanges it for a brand new one. It pisses me off because he complains about them being pieces of shit when he's buying the cheapest one we have, for normal daily use. All I'm thinking is, "They aren't supposed to be used like real mattresses, especially at you're obnoxious weight!"

Anyway, it's not just a store by store policy. Even online, in the description of all airbed mattresses, it says, "Open airbeds cannot be returned, but may be exchanged for a similar item." It seems pointless, because once they get the new, unopened mattress, they can just return it anyway at another store. With it being unopened, they can do a normal return anyway. The whole thing just irritates me. I hate the stupid policies on the matter because they do nothing to stop disgusting piece of shit guests from being nasty, cheap ass leeches. End rant.

Here is target policy on drones & air mattresses.
  • If you’re not satisfied with any Target Owned Brand item, return it within one year with a receipt for an exchange or a refund.
  • Open music, movies, video games and software cannot be returned, but may be exchanged at the store for the same title, for the same or different gaming platform.
  • Open airbeds cannot be returned, but may be exchanged for a similar item.
  • Open or defective collectibles (e.g., sports cards, special edition Barbie dolls, porcelain dolls, action figures and die-cast cars) cannot be returned.
  • All Electronics and entertainment items must be returned within 30 days for a refund or exchange. Drones must be returned within 14 days for a refund or exchange. For these items purchased between 11/1 – 12/25, the 30-day refund period will start on 12/26..

At my store it wasn't just airbeds but all kinds of camp gear: coolers & camp chairs returned after the local music fest, car DVD players, tents & airbeds returned after vay-cay, large pools returned at summer's end (JUST under the 90 days) - you name it.
Our ETL-GE would take anything back because, you know, survey scores.

Ugh I hate this. We're not a damn rental company
