Any advice how I can try my best to get kept to be a regular instead of seasonal employee by the new year?

Hey so I was recently hired as seasonal for fulfillment. I do like the job so far and I’m getting the hours I want so far so I just want to see if there is any advice from yall what I can do to try to be kept since I want to quit my current job for this and I don’t want to quit until and see if target keeps me. Any advice would be great!

Welcome! Please don’t quit your other job even if Spot decides to keep you. Target is fine as a second job or pocket money job, but if you are a new hire and have to live off your paycheck the pickings will be very slim after the Holidays and except for Back to School will likely stay that way for most of the year. Hours were always short starting in January, sometimes as low as 3.75 to 4 hours a week for weeks on end, and that was before the massive hours cuts that Target has been making lately. Target is not doing particularly well at this point, the job market isn’t that great either, and if your other job is at a stable company you will likely to better in the long run to stay there, at least until you can find another stable company to go to or until things improve. Putting all of your eggs in Target’s basket could leave you high and dry if the worst happens to the company.

As far as what you need to do for Target to keep you, attendance and productivity are key. Do your best, follow the rules, ask questions if you need to, don’t call out unless you are really sick, avoid becoming enmeshed in store drama and try to keep that positive attitude that Target loves so much. Veteran team members can be very helpful and informative about the best and most efficient ways of accomplishing tasks, and many are happy to help a new team member who is trying to do a good job. Not saying that you wouldn’t, but just for general knowledge, strictly follow all of the policies regarding discounts and payment methods, and all policies regarding purchasing clearance and high demand items. If you are issued keys, handle them responsibly. Follow the break schedule if there is one and don’t miss your fifth/sixth hour when taking your meal period. Work safely. Treat the guests well, get along with other team members, and be a team player. And finally, the last two things to absolutely avoid are no call/no shows and calling off on Black Friday. Either of those two things can sink your chances right there. Good luck, hope things work out for you.😁

Echoing what @Black Sheep 214 said about taking your meal break, or "hitting compliance".

When I was first hired as a seasonal I didn't understand how important that was to Target; I figured that as long as I was working I was good. But I got written up a couple times for missing my "thirty," so at the end of the season I got let go while other seasonal employees stayed on.

Also what @Black Sheep 214 said about how your hours will be reduced after the holidays. It's a steep drop off. When you take a peek at that next posted schedule you'll be stunned.
