This is probably a good time to start. You have a bit of breathing space to learn before the next holiday. Each store probably has their own ways of doing things, but as someone who has been working on the front end of a Target store for almost two decades, I have learned a few things. Get to know the experienced cashiers. If you are unsure about something, they will probably be the quickest source to go to. Don't go looking for bar codes. The scanner will catch them most of the time. Call for change before you are completely out, especially when it comes to pennies and $1 bills. And finally, if time permits, make sure your workspace is cleared of hangers and potential sales (re-shop, abandoned items, whatever your team likes to call it) before you end your shift.
