cracking down on sick time

Is this other DC's or just mine? I'm just getting scattered info but it seems theyre trying to "crack down" on sick time. Not sure the details, maybe emphasizing what are the valid reasons allowed for sick time.

i think some people were just dipping with an hr left in shift and not really telling anybody. typical this is why we cant have nice things moment.

another thing is the "requirement" (?) to tell the OM. I dont think this is legal. If youre sick youre sick, and sometimes the OM isn't findable, so what now? I get that its supposedly so they know you're missing if a fire drill, but I dont see why just telling a lead wouldn't work, if the OM isn't immediately available. I think this is just an attempt to bully ppl from using it.

But the defcon 5 is one aggressive, bully type lead apparently told people target can request a doctors sick note for sick time (not necessarily will, but can). anybody heard that?

the overall vibe is that sick time is evidently they think becoming an issue, costing plans or whatever. i dont buy it, plan better then. my main thing is sick time hrs are really so few, 36 hrs a YEAR but really not even that because you do not accrue sick time on vacation, loa, call offs, or anything else. so honestly for me who has the seniority to get a lot of vac, it's probably more like 2.5 days per YEAR at best. that's nothing. yeah i get it probably sucks for them but its so few hours imo they can bite the bullet on that one, it's self limiting. now if they started giving everybody 3 weeks sick or something i would get it.

From an AP standpoint, you leaving the building without permission is not acceptable and grounds to lock you out.
We dont know what or why you are leaving, up to and including going to grab a gun from the car because someone pissed you off.

When people leave without OM approval, we inform the OM and HR.

Maybe the first person or two gets away with the "I didnt know because I was using sick time" excuse but afterwards that excuse doesnt work anymore.

You are absolutely never allowed to leave without permission. It is job abandonment, and a security risk.
If it is a medical emergency, we will call an ambulance for you. Otherwise, it can wait until you get a hold of the manager responsible for your well being.

Outside of all that, nobody will forcibly stop you from walking out the door. Just understand you risk never being let back in (or let back in with your OM and HR standing there waiting for you to have a nice little chat and let you know your done).

hmm, i used to leave vns, later upt at all hrs (though most often at 12) and nobody in ap at the front desk ever said anything (except maybe a friendly farewell). half the time the om's/leads didnt seem to know even if i was on the calendar, so its hard to believe ap was tipped off. and i just walked out/badged out, and to them that was a normal sight (though for example, vns might be expected to happen in waves).

for that matter my mind tends to go to natural conclusions, so what happens when multiple tm's (and they def will) are like ya, go ahead call an ambulance lol. then targets gonna start to go, ok this is a pain in our ass/costing us ori's. thats going to be the pushback.

not disagreeing tho, i get it.

but theres a definite aspect i've experience where their real goal is to kind of bully you into not using sick, with the "have to speak to the om/om cant be found, so therefore you're sol" thing. at least some unsavory leads. i dont see why notifying the lead isnt effectively the same thing. they can write it down in a notebook for a potential fire drill just as well as a lead can.

Leads are not responsible for other TMs. Their only role is helping with managing production goals. Managers are privy to more details about a TM than a Lead is.
For example if a TM has expressed suicidal thoughts to HR. Their direct OM is looped in and bears a lot of responsibilities with that situation that a Lead has no idea about.

That's the most extreme example I can think of, because yeah in a perfect world you could just tell your lead you wanted to leave, but there are genuine business reasons it has to be your OM.
