Do Target stores still sell it? At my local Target, there are locked cases in the jewelry department, but no fine jewelry.

the heck is the dif between fine jewelry and regular
The quality of the metal and gemstones. Fine jewelry is usually actual gold/quality silver vs gold-plated/filled/nickel and real gemstones instead of simulated. It also costs a LOT more (usually, there is some fake stuff out there that's NOT cheap, but you're only paying for the brand name..,) Granted, there IS some gold plated/filled/crappy metal with simulated gemstones that calls itself "fine jewelry," but it really isn't...

We used to have some really nice stuff locked up in the jewelry cases. We had a specialist for the area and a TM scheduled there every day all day. We sold nice bracelets, necklaces, earrings and rings including wedding bands. That changed many years ago.

We even changed out watch batteries and watch bands, we even had the tools to remove links in watch bands so they would fit your wrist perfectly.

In fact, some of the jewelry we sold had real diamonds, we had a diamond tester device at the service desk so we could test that they were real & not cubic zirconium stones if a guest did a jewelry return.

Ahhhhh.... Yes.... Those were the days - When Target actually CARED about guest service and was not worried about us spending more than 20 seconds with each guest and did not shove redcards down our throats. I still have my diamond tester and ring sizers(even though we sell no ring anymore!) I refer so much watchband and battery business to the jeweler down the street I should get a commission from her!

A guest called in today; she had received a 14K gold plated locket as a gift and wanted to know how much it cost. It was a weird question but I guess she was wondering whether the person who gave it to her was gifting something really meaningful (err...expensive) or not. It turned out that the locket was $16.99. I felt so sorry for her; you could just hear in her voice how disappointed and hurt she was. At the same time, I wanted to remind her that it came from Target; how much did she really think it was going to be worth?

Isn't it the thought that counts?

I don't remember Target selling fine jewelry. Well not for the last 20 or so years. Target just sold junk jewelry and watches in the cabinets. A couple years ago. Target closed the jewelry counter down and put everything on the floor.

The word is that our jewelry department is getting an entire rehaul this week. I don't know what that means in terms of changes. It could just be a new plano. We still have locked cabinets although I don't think there is anything of value inside. But I have to admit that I've never really taken a good look in the past few years I've worked there. I would love to see something different done with the watches. They sit out on a pseudo display and are always a mess.

Do other stores ever zone their jewelry departments? It seems as if ours is hardly ever touched. But then, I think we have a vendor who comes in and checks it out occasionally for us.

Ugh, this thraed just reminded me of the dumbass at the service desk who apparently returned a pair of plastic earrings in a box that said 14 karat gold diamond earrings and gave them $130 for them.

Softlines Sr. TL brought them up to me from off the floor yesterday, she was less than amused.

Walmart stores have recently started doing away with their fine jewelry as well. The local Walmart has removed all the jewelry cases and the jewelry register.

Wow, this is an old bump.

lol I remember the $8.88 wedding bands. Hope they don't do away with those! I gotta find me a girl who'll accept a wedding band set that is less than ten dollars, but I'm hopeful!

Many boards don't allow posting on threads over 30 days old - violators are reminded of this and sometimes given a forced board vacation. Personally I like this rule, but it does not exist here. Pity.

It's not much of a problem

Eh, there are Targets that had a jewelry boat till they got their A&A 2.0 remodel. I know stores that that was just 6-8 months ago. So it's still a regular topic especially when I still have guests come in and ask if we sell "fine jewelry."
