Getting an item for a guest AFTER the closing announcement

So a guest wanted something from electronics (the electronics had left at least half hour before) so the Closing TL had to go back there.

However this was five minutes after the store closing announcement, the lights were dimmed, and there was a line up front.

What is the store policy on this?

I would have told the guest that we were closed and that was that.

Thoughts?

I don't know exact policy but at my store we assist any last guests with whatever they need including Tech items to get them out the store as fast as possible even after the closing announcement.
Gotta make that last minute money!

Also it's strange that no one else had Tech keys since the Tech TM left for the night. At my store someone always has Tech keys even if the person running Tech leaves for the night someone else holds the keys for any last guests that might need something.

Wow, I guess my store is a little less forgiving than the replies in this thread. We give guests plenty of warnings that we're closing. No excuse to ask for something they want 5 minutes after we close. If you reward people for not paying attention and listening, they think they can get away with anything.

Surprised to hear the crusty old Captain say that, aren't you? Old school I guess. Very old school. Just drop 30 deg flaps throw in a little throttle and land in the back room and get Karen her Keurig. It ain't hard.

Mine is the same. I wouldn't mind I usually "#workwhereIlove" or whatever but leadership would have to make sure those doors are open for me to exit immediately after I clock out and escort me to my car since all my 10pm buddys left for the night. They like to bitch about time clock fraud when they want and don't realize half us DONT EVEN GET TO TAKE A LAST BREAK! Tired of it and this is why more and more TMs are getting tired or it and leaving. NO I won't stay an extra 15 to help Karen cause I will straight up tell my leader that I am sitting my ass down in the break room and taking my last break....and THEN clocking out...but heres the keys if u want to go get that extra $$$ for target.

I truly miss the old leadership THEY noticed! if i didnt take a last break. One time they were concerned and said we are so sorry if you want go take your break take the extra 15 and then clock out. An etl also noticed she said fight for your break. it has be taken and at the appropriate time. now I get accused of time clock fraud because all of a sudden our breaks are being timed. So 3 or 4 minuted or some shit probably the time it takes to walk over or clean my area or switch out equipment etc. like WTF u seriously timed me and said I went 3 minutes over on my first break but you cant even notice that I consistently never take my last break along with several others who care about getting shit done and truly helping guests. my store has sadly gone to shit so I wouldn't be surprised if dannyy315 is actually my coworker lol....

Usually I chased guests out when the lights went out. I even told one person that no, he would not be allowed to purchase the items well after lights out, because he would not stop shopping despite me guest servicing him to the point he was getting pretty ticked, and he asked sarcastically "Won't I still be able to buy them tonight?"

One time though, I helped a guest with an item. Christmas Eve, I was checking my areas for stray people, and a woman was standing there staring at formula. Mom had sent her to get a can but she couldn't find the right type. I could think of a couple dozen ways a freshly opened can could be fouled and I wasn't about to let a little baby go hungry from Christmas Eve night to the morning of the 26th. She didn't know the brand or the name of the type but she described one brand perfectly. But she was pretty sure that wasn't the brand, nor was the main competitor brand that didn't match perfectly the right brand. 10 minutes after close, she called Mom and Mom somehow didn't know the right brand either. 13 minutes after lights off I shoved the one she described perfectly into her hands, I hoped it was the right one, and I sent her to the front.

The person who wants a tech item after the store is closed is usually also the person who wants to price match which may or may not be legitimate or has some other type of issues. If it is a grab and go, its one thing, but if it turns into anything else, they can buy it at the cost it rings up today (other than target.com) and if they want to come back during regular store hours that is an option or they can come back tomorrow.
