How do you label upper casepack locations?

Worked at two different stores who do it differently and haven't been able to get a concrete answer on what's best practice on workbench other than casepack locations being 01-24.

One store labels casepack locations in order no matter how many shelves there are.

ex.

01A001A03
01A001A02
01A001A29-A22
01A001A25-A28
01A001A01


Another store labels casepack shelves depending on how many shelves up it they are

ex.

01A001A05
01A001A04
01A001A29-A22
01A001A25-A28
01A001A01


A former backroom TM told me they used to do it the second way. Curious if anyone can offer any insight on this

Welcome! Back in the days before Modernization I was a Backroom TL and our labeling was done according to the first example. Sorry to confuse the issue, but that was best practice, at least in my district at that time.

Best practice should be the second way starting at 5 for uppercase. If you do it the first way the upper may start at different numbers in different aisles or sections based on the way the backroom aisle is set up. It should be as uniform as possible across the entire backroom. It also allows for moving shelves or adding or taking away wacos/shelves as necessary. Wacos always start at 25 as a rule of thumb but can be lower if necessary

I think we do it the first way now, but we used to do the 2nd way. Of course 2nd way is best
