Did anybody else get the Match the Care and the Cost activity sheet?

This is the one that an A list with medical procedures including:
Retail health clinic, Nurseline call, MRI, Ultrasound, Emergency Room visit, Back Pain Physical therapy, and CT chest Scan.

Then there's a list of average costs which are (according to the *) vary by region and are not tied to a specific condition or treatment, which means they were pretty much pulling the numbers out of their collective asses.

And then there is the f ucking capper, a list of products from Target.com that match those prices.
So you compare that ultrasound for kidney stones to a apple ipod 160gb mp3 player.
Or the ER visit for your kid because they are vomiting blood to a Sony Vaio 17.3 laptop PC with 640 hard drive 4GB memory.

The point of this little insult to our intelligence is that we can save money if we understand how much medical services cost.

REALLY!!!
You dickheads at Spot don't think I am truly aware that the thousand of dollars that I have to spend every year on medications, tests, and doctors visits is pretty damned ridiculous?
That one of the guys at work who had a liver transplant doesn't feel the same way?
Do you think that telling us we could have bought 125 Weber One Touch Gold Kettle Grills is going to help?

If you're not going to bother offering decent health insurance, don't put out insulting health care activities.
Screw you, Spot.

I've always thought the benefits changes were really stupid.

"Healthcare is expensive!"

No **** why do you think I'm enrolled in Health insurance? And you wanna take it away so that I can see how much it costs? Thaaankss!

You have to wonder what complete idiot thought this was a good idea. I swear this company just hands unions ammo

Wow, if we hadn't treated my wifes cancer we could've bought a Lexus! Well, I could have. Thanks math guy in Minneapolis!

Why don't they calculate how many TMs we could have on the floor if they didn't drop big change on controversial candidates, klutzy racecar drivers, naming rights to sports arenas or snapping up retail space for a corp playground?
Bet the tally could exceed premiums for the TMs who can still afford health care.

gotta admit the healthcare propaganda, I mean information video we had to watch before enrollment was pretty effective in making you blindly agree, I remember being like "their right you know, healthcare IS expensive."

I mean this really sucks for a lot of people, but maybe there does need to be more responsiblility and accountability in the way insured people use their benefits. Like choosing between a 24 hour clinic that could treat a non life threatening emergency as opposed to going to the ER which is unnecessary and expensive. But that doesn't mean I thinking cutting benefits is the answer.

We use the nurseline first if it's after hrs. Our doctors' group also has an after hrs clinic.
The last thing I want to do is drag my kids to wait for hrs in an ER but, ironically, it's the TM families who DON'T have coverage that wind up in the ER.
I agree that some folks go for minor things simply because they're covered but most don't shell out copays unecessarily & it's also a lot more complicated if you have small children or infants who can't tell you if they're feeling worse or not.

So, if my youngest hadn't had his adenoids removed & ear tubes put in, we could've bought a 42" flatscreen, Blueray player & xbox game system instead?
Sure, he'd have been miserable but - hey! The picture would be FANTASTIC!

Sadly, most kids nowadays would take the Xbox.

its funny they list an MRI for your knee as being the cost of a 40" tv? thats funny. too bad thats assuming there's nothing wrong with it. like personally - then how many tv's could i have racked up when the MRI was inconclusive, leading to multiple x-rays, then another MRI and then finally after waiting so long finding out that not only was it a torn ACL that needed to be replaced, but now meniscus also plus bone bruising? oh, and then the months of surgery and learning how to walk again? i mean the MRI is just a drop in the bucket - they leave that out. you think it would help their point.

luckily then was just in high school and my parents both had real insurance.

Yeah, I kind of was thinking "What are they trying to prove?"

Health Care isn't expensive because we, the mass the peons, aren't thinking of costs like that but because the people who prescribing it have little to no idea what they are actually doing half the time unless they are a specialist. Seriously, a doctor who gives you 15 seconds to diagnose you/order a test isn't doing their job.

Last year I was having major foot pain and I was being sent all over the place to different specialists who couldn't figure out why my foot was hurting so much. Not a single person asked about the shoes... One day, after about a month of the pain, I sat down and made a list of everything that it could possibly be and went through it one by one. I realized the shoes I had bought, from Target of course, were so cheap that they had no support for being on the linoleum all day. I changed that and all of a sudden my foot went away.

So the cost to Target was around $900 and me was $250 without any benefits to anybody.

What they ought to be doing is getting the information from the doctors and start grading them on their cost/benefits for them and us.

That's been tried. It turns out that nobody wants to take the legal responsibility for the crappy image quality of the Kinect.

Unless you have a 10lb tumor around something then it's going to miss it.

Well, I think a lot of ER visits are also fear based. Who wants to take a risk on their kid dying?

Spot is all about mixed messages.
To keep health costs down in the past, we went to the dr's for check-ups & tests to qualify for the health insurance discount (costing $$ for bloodwork, mammograms, etc).
They preach healthy lifestyles while dumping outdates of cookies, cupcakes, chips & other junk food in the breakroom.
They discontinued the fitness rebate.
Now they're trying to discourage us from using our health insurance altogether by comparing costs to electronics purchases?
WTF?

Honestly, I didn't even bother really looking at our health insurance because I have pretty good insurance through my husband....the first thing I saw was "$4000 deductible" and I went "okay, next benefit". His company has <100 employees and they don't even have a $4000 deductible!!! (heck we have NO deductible with his!!!)

To add insult to injury (so to speak) they passed out another one today.
I guess nobody turned theirs in.
