So i'm applying for the signing position and i'm coming from plano. The job has been available for a couple of weeks now. Should I be expecting a pay raise, i'm at an ultra low volume store and i've been with target for over 5 years but i'm not capped out yet. How does that entire process work?

Back in the days when we were specialists there was a .25 pay difference.
Nowadays we're TM, so my understanding is that it's just change in position.
You'll probably get more hours and a frell load of responsibility (be ready to have every single TL and ETL want you to do something right NOW!).

yeah thats what I heard rumblings about but I knew a few years ago a person who was in signing and they got a pay raise.

Don't know what your current grade is nor what the one you're applying for is, but in my area a Signing TM position is a PG09.

Your current paygrade will be on your paystub. If it is lower than a PG09, and they actually have the position at that, then it would be a raise most likely. Your HR or clerical should be able to answer these questions for you.

a PG 9 starts @ $9.50/hr ..so if you're less than that, you'll be bumped up. If you're making more than that, you might get a slight raise if you're coming from a PG5/7 position

In my area, Planogram is paygrade N07, and signing is N09. Moving from N07 to N09 gets you a $0.50/hr increase. I think they kept Signing at the same paygrade even after it was no longer a specialist position.

This is correct, POG is N07 and Signing is N09 so you should receive a $.50 raise if you promote. I loved the Signing job when I did it, depending on the store it is probably the best position in the company.

At my store they normally gave signing 30 hours a week with a rotating Sunday ad set shift. Of course some weeks you will have 80 hours of signing workload and others you will have 10 hours. As long as you are a good self starter and can come up with fixes when the instructions are jacked up / missing you should be golden.

If you like problem solving and fixing things on the fly (but are also good at following and conversely throwing out instructions) you should be fine. Especially if you have a complete understanding of Plano, you should be golden, since aside from softlines and operational (ie 'around the store') you've already seen almost everything and know how to pick out what you need from a planogram.

signing was supposed to have the paygrade removed with, what, AE11? pr AE10? Not sure. It seems like maybe that was the case but the bump in pay was supposed to go away, but that would also depend on what position you were before (but it also seems like maybe they "forgot" to do that). Question though - if former signing spec position is now just signing TM position - are they then at the same paygrade as the ad prep, and setup/takedown team? at my store ad prep has a dedicated person, whose hours mostly completely fall under signing, however, the setup/takedown TMs don't get nearly close to 1/2 of their hours from that workcenter so probably not for them.

When they did away with the specialist title they left Receiving and Signing at the old paygrade, but lowered the paygrade for positions like Electronics specialist(TM) and Entertainment specialist (TM). So for signing there wasn't any real change with doing away with specialists.

The Signing workcenter deals with ISM signing, it should not have anything to do with ad signing team.

Our SF team does ad takedown after their zones on Saturdays. We usually schedule an extra closer to help with the workload. And we have one lady who does the ad prep, but since she isn't trained on the powered equipment and doesn't do anything whatsoever with ISM signing, she does not get the signing pay, even though most of her hours are under Signing.

This is really more what i meant. since our ad prep person is the only other person who really is keyed as a signing TM, and since they now the same title yet completely different positions which was more my point.

When I moved from plano to signing I received .50. I went from PG07 to PG09. When they used to have specialists (level 2) they received a dollar more. Good luck on getting the position.

Ah, didn't realize that. Your ad prep person probably shouldn't be keyed as a Signing TM. Ours is keyed as Cashier, I believe. If you're not keyed in the correct workcenter, you'll be flagged for trainings you don't need and may miss out on trainings that they do need. They'll have access to email, which they really shouldn't, and TMSC may override the fact that they didn't get the pay increase, because they don't know that the person isn't fully Signing-trained. I guess in this case none of it is a huge deal (and the pay rate override is override-able, if HR caught it), but that's why we have the different workcenters in the first place.

Yeah, I could look them up in the employee directory and see what they are keyed as (but that won't necessarily reflect their paygrade). not that it matters though, i'm just getting curious now - FWIW she's been there way longer than I have (actually now that I think about it - she's most likely keyed as softlines tm if not signing since that was her previous workcenter.) i just never really thought about it until we started talking about what these paygrades mean now in regards to current positions and titles minus the specialist titles.

when they first started doing the team alignments i actually got shuffled to the price change tl (they own the ad/ad team at my store) until they went in and manually changed it to plano (unless they didn't and just said they did- but all my max stuff - schedule, punches, requests, etc went to the ETL OPS because of the (signing) Ad Team->Pricing TL->Ops structure VS the Signing->Planogram TL->ETL HL structure).

it would be easier if they just used signing to refer to the ad team, and used something that referenced ISM to refer to the "signing" role. ISM TM, or ISM Brand TM or something.

At my store, the overnight ad team gets scheduled under Signing, but they're actually sales floor and flow TMs. Our ad prep TM also gets scheduled under Signing, but I'm not sure how she's coded.

At ours, Ad Prep, Ad Setup, and (former) Signing Spec are all under Signing workcenter at my store. And turns out, our ad prep is coded as Plano. Even tho I know she's never done a day of Plano. Interesting. But, knowing how the ETL was that put the original Ad Prep/Setup team together I'm not surprised. The Ad Setup folks are currently Flow TMs. In the past they were salesfloor TMs.

For us, we have a TM who pretty much just does ad-prep. Older woman, scheduled under pricing workcenter. Ad takedown/setup is now done by one team, every sunday morning under the pricing workcenter.

Our signing TM, plano TL and pricing TL all rotate weekends to come in and do the signs.

My store must be different than most. The ad set team will be scheduled as sales floor every Sunday morning. Ad takedown is the responsibility of the Saturday closing LOD and sales floor team members.

That's how my store used to do it, except the 4AM/6AM ad set team would get scheduled under Signing. Our STL has since created an overnight team for both ad takedown and setup.
