The town that one of my old stores was in had a local law that stated that shopkeepers are immune from any legal action that stems from legitimate attempts to prevent or resolve shoplifting.
🤘. I wonder what AP does in Texas 😏 nah I don’t need to know

They can wheel a TV out the front door in a cart, AP calls them out, thief tells him/her to screw off. Free TV. Come on in, help yourself.
Same with police, they sit in the parking lots and screw off for hours watching speeders and sign runners. Never stop them. No balls.
We had a gun situation at our store so the police are always be in the parking lot at 3:00am. I always come early for my 3:30am shift. Other TM’s cars pull in and sit in their cars waiting for the key holder. About 3:20 while we are all in our cars the cops leaves. Lol EVERY morning. Maybe a shift change but what the heck. At least watch us get in the door safe.

Say what, you need a police escort? AP should have your back. Where do they recruit your AP TM’s? You should see ours. They either served in our armed forces or they are cyber security wizards 🧙‍♂️

I'm sorry I didn't see this thread before. All of you made very good points. I hate to admit this but I just lost my job on Monday from stopping a cart full of merchandise from walking out the front door. I expected a suspension and massive amounts of training and retraining about what I am allowed to do (B.O.B. and L.I.S.A.) and whatever else along those lines they deemed appropriate but, did not expect them to "sever my employment" after four years. I am still very sad about it. I miss my work family a lot!

I'm sure they miss you too. It's terrible to lose your job for doing something you feel is morally right. And I totally get the frustration from seeing that kind of thing happen time after time. We can't even say "please don't steal that television that you're currently stealing." It's nuts. Good luck.

We have seen a person stealing plenty of times . We reported every single time . Never confronted the guest . AP team did a few times and warned the person . It stops for a while and then back again . We stopped caring now . But it just feels sad . May be that person has some mental issues I don’t know .

We just hired 2 new APs. And they’ve been keeping a closer eye on repeat offenders and cracking down on them. Just in the past couple weeks, they prevented people on several occasions from walking out with a full cart. We also implemented a new system for empty packages. When we find one, we write the date, time, and aisle we found it and throw it in a bin for AP to look at.

Shoplifting has been bad at my store if you can’t tell haha

It’s just wrong that those who try to prevent crimes suffer more than those who perpetuate those crimes. That says a lot about the current state of our society, none of it good. Not talking about those who steal food to survive, but nobody is eating make-up, Lego sets, iPads and televisions, and those shoplifters, whether alone or organized into retail theft rings, drive up prices for everyone and drive down wages, benefits and hours for retail workers. Corporations seem to be relatively complacent beyond their periodic pearl-clutching squawks to the media because they cover their own butts by passing the costs on to everyone else.
What is really irritating is Target doing the bare minimum to stop shoplifting and then crying to the shareholders that shoplifting is bringing down profits as a cover for corporate’s poor management. That says a lot about Target, too, none of it good.

So who processes that item out of the system then if you're not also logging it in Item Removal as an empty package? Does your AP do it when they go thru the bin?

We used to do something like this, but no we just process it in item removal. If it is something expensive, I'll walkie AP or leave them a gift.

Seriously the 4a shift should walk in as a group. It doesn't matter where you live, there are wackos and dirtbags everywhere. We did and I'm a badass.

AP should be shouldering a DPMS Oracle AR-15 5.56mm in the parking lot and walking the folks in. When the dirtbags see that they may think twice about pulling some shit.
For real though, some targets do have armed security outside lol. There's a fancy pants mall a couple blocks from our store that has armed security. Several luxury stores there have been targeted.

I hold it up in the air when I find it, give it a slow turn so they can see it on camera for the run back.

We are encircled by stores that have armed staff in and outside the stores.
