Archived Anyone else put money on a giftcard then use their discount

This is acceptable. I believe if you use the prepaid RedCard you'll get another 5%.

it's against policy to buy a giftcard with another credit or debit card (besides the redcard) just to use your discount. I do buy a giftcard every couple of weeks with my redcard and then use that for my breaks so I'm not spending a dollar here and there on my debit card but I asked if that was ok.

This is something HRs used to tell you to do when got hired at Target, then down the road when the company started going to hell they declared it against the rules. Like anything at Target when HQ causes a problem the people in the stores pay for it. Company makes huge mistakes and the stores pay the price while the ones who did leave with more cash then they know what to do with.

Pre sure it's against policy js

If you use a card that's not discount-eligible (such as a bank debit or 3rd-party credit card) to purchase the gift card, that is against policy. Circumventing the discount policy got a TM at my store fired.

Yep...it's in the handbook you are not supposed to do this. So I wouldn't go around bragging about it. What RedandKhaki does is perfectly okay since she paid for the gift card with her REDcard (cash would have been acceptable as well) because you can use your discount with those payments, anyway.

If you receive a gift card from another person, you can use it with your discount card. But if someone gets a bee in their bonnet and notices you using a lot of gift cards with your TM discount card, or starts tracing to see who the owner of the original card was that paid for that gift card, and your name is attached to it, you could be out of a job.

Only you can decide for yourself if it is worth that risk.

I really dislike using gift cards (the ones I get with the "Buy X, get a $10 giftcard" promotions) because that means I don't get to use my Red card discount on whatever portion is gift card related. When that does come up, I try to get it down to just below $5, so I can cash it out

Everyone at my store does this. Even my TL who refuses to get a REDCard does it, and even tried to insist with me that it wasn't against policy when she came to my lane to purchase a GiftCard (apparently she wasn't aware). To my knowledge, no one at my store has gotten in trouble for it, but I won't do it myself because I know it could come back to bite me in the ass if they ever decide to enforce it.

ayyy I'm on LOA though so I don't care and got a better job. Gotta use my chase card to buy the giftcard and use my discount

AYYY TARGET WHATCHA GONNA DO I BE BREAKING THE SYSTEM

I do. Ayy I'm on LOA so ayyy gotta use the only perk at target which is that 10%

TPS reporting in. Everyday I search transactions for "team member discount" with "gift card payment".

1) You cannot load the gift card, with intent to use with discount, with your own debit card. I found three people doing this and turned it over to my ETL today.

2) you can use cash to load the gift cards.

Why are people so naive as to what we can trace?

Has anyone ever died as a result of this? I just don't see what the big deal is. What's wrong with using a Target gift card and your discount? Does Target lose a dollar every time or does the STL not get a bonus if it happens? Why make someone's life harder for them because of something so small and stupid?

We're not worth whatever the credit card processing fee is. Well, maybe we are, but definitely not the fee plus the discount.

Same reason we try to encourage guests to open and use Red Cards rather than their 3rd-party cards.

I mean does the STL get a bonus for enforcing that policy? It's a shitty policy in my opinion. And ruining someone over it is weak too.

No, they don't get a bonus based on discount policy. It's in the handbook. It's something TMs agree to when they start. The point of it is to limit interchange fees, which aren't much each time; but, multiply that fee by every tm transaction across the entire company and those fees are up. This is why you can only use your discount with cash, check, target cards, and gift cards. Using a non target card to buy a giftcard and then using your discount with the giftcard is circumventing the policy so you can essentially use your tm discount with your regular debit/credit. Target is still paying interchange fees. It all has to do with Target saving money. You're free to think it's a stupid policy, but it's one you agreed to wha n you started working and the handbook clearly states that there may be corrective action for abusing the discount policy up to and including termination.

Honestly any tm who has a checking account without bad check writing history at target, spends money at target, and doesn't have a redcard debit...they're just losing money.

The funny thing is I don't agree with it. It's a shitty policy made by arrogant selfish people who have never worked a day in a Target store. Thank you!

until someone ruined it by buying alcohol with their gift card that was the go to way to recognize team members. i have a ton that i never wanted to use because i'd rather the 5% off

What's wrong with buying alcohol with free gift cards? I'd never thought to do so, but I don't see why that'd be a huge no-no, so long as they didn't then show up drunk, etc.
