jesus christ that state looks like a liberal paradise.

Would he actually stand a chance of getting in charge of Target though?

The right wingers in Minnesota shrieked and cried when Dayton and the Dems increased taxes by 2% on the wealthy and increased the minimum wage, claiming businesses and (wait for it) JOB CREATORS would leave the state. Of course, the state is now running a surplus and has the fifth lowest unemployment rate in the country. I hope everyone remembers this the next time someone tells you raising taxes on the rich and raising the minimum wage increases unemployment and scares away businesses.

Then look immediately to the east of Minnesota and observe a state passing ALEC-written legislation, well on its way to the austerity and tax cuts for the "job creators" model that will resemble Kansas after all is said and done.

I also find it interesting that yesterday at my store we were all subjected to the "no releasing" insider information to anyone outside of Spot including pay and reviews...which we aren't to discuss with anyone. Really? Spot got into trouble just a year ago with the labor board for that, and they are already back to that.

So they will lie to the media and threaten those of us who know the truth with potential criminal charges if we dare say anything. Nice. Real nice.
This just started at my store with an ETL standing over each of us as we read the blurb & checking off our names as we finished.

They're telling you not to talk to the media about your pay and raises?
Those don't qualify as inside information according to the Labor Board.

And the blurb even said that your own pay & raises were NOT included. smh

I have not been subjected to that whole show. Yet. I'd imagine it's much like the ETLs watching you do the Best Team Survey concerned about the scores, except more morally repugnant.

We weren't even given a chance to read it. The ETL read it to us (which out his own spin on it) and then made us sign that he had done so.

So they tell you to skip the screen that says "you should be alone when taking this survey, and we want it to be anonymous." That's low.

I think I'd pull out my cell and call the hotline right there. Fuck that.

I didn't get to go to a chat session last year, at least allow me to give you the worse marks possible without breathing down my neck.

Answer me this,,, are we not allowed to discuss what we are being paid? Can I get a scolding or termed if I ask what someone else is making?

I've always seen it as common courtesy to not ask what other people around me make. With the exception of people paid on tax payers dime, your pay is personal and you don't have to tell anyone if you don't want to.

However if you choose to disclose that is up to you.

I've never understood keeping pay a secret. I make $8.25 per hour. My peer in the FC makes $12 - they've been there nearly 20 years. Am I supposed to be mad because they make more? Big whoop.

A business is healthier when the pay is standardized and visible to everyone.

Because then favoritism is very noticeable if everything was visible. Also it's a fantastic method of divide and conquer for some managers if they use silence.

And they can't keep you from talking about your wage. At all. If any ETL or STL makes a comment towards you about that just contact the labor board.

When I worked offshore, the pay rates for each position was open to the employees. When I was in the military, the pay rates for all ranks were known.

It works - believe me. No secrets paywise is best. Everything is out in the open!

It's definitely about keeping the grunts in their place. Then you can't realize the idiot next to you who had worked half as long makes more for no good reason.

You can discuss your pay, and they legally can't stop you or punish you for doing so. But at my store they were pretty clear with us not to do it. I just don't see the need to be the trouble maker, so I let it go...let it go...
I don't discuss my pay with anyone.

So I'm safe to assume there is no base or starting pay scale of any sort, that it varies in store, in state, and across the nation? During my final interview when the lead wrote down what I would be making, right there I should have said I wanted more? Don't ask don't tell? I'd like to know where I stack up against other TMs. I'll ask, you don't have to answer, I'll tell, you don't have to listen. I started as seasonal flow last fall at $8.75 with a dollar differential more for every hour worked before store opens.

It never hurts to ask. But I've found negotiating pay especially for positions below TL can be like pulling teeth. I've heard people that were able to, but I've never seen it in my store. When I came back to Target I tried to negotiate based on my prior experience with the company and was flat out told no.
