Work is hard. But you get accustomed to it. Get yourself some specialty functions to get some days out of the physical work. When I worked here, and I was inbound, I got trained as a clerical, and became a trainer. I spent probably 1 day a month in ART, 2-3 days a month on the dock, and then the...

Usually you put spoon to mouth, then swallow. At least that's how I learned.

Archived Is it true that people don’t usually make it past their first 90 days?

The people that are let go before their 90 days are typically the people you can look at and understand...they will not make it 90 days.

ART was easy peasy. Put box on line. Watch box go. Take box off line. Label box. I feel like people tried to over complicate the job too much.

Mandatory was the worst. I didn't mind volunteering when I had time, but I could never understand the people who worked 6 days a week. 66 hour weeks? Keep em.

Well, lets just say diaper trailers and palletized dog food trailers were not uncommon.

Three people I know of were fired due to receiving flow, then receiving it as reserve, then cancelling flow labels. It's interesting to think the only person of that group that did not get fired was promoted to GL/OM - heavily based on him being the #1 in production in the department...

Old t557 team member here. Been out for a few years now. Finished college, moved on to my field of study. I always look back and miss the good times a had there. Only reason that place was enjoyable was the people. These safety changes sound so silly. I keep on touch with a friend still working...

    Archived Warehouse worker to GL/OM???

Stumbled across a current GL/OM's "bonus calculator" on the computer once. He happened to save his work to the DC public drive, so it was available for anyone to see. He was in the DC for 5 years at this point. Salary: $73,000. Bonus: $3,000

Archived Looking for information regarding a job at a distribution center

A few to several months. Really depends how busy there are, and if they need the extra body. If you get offered a shift that would not conflict with your current job, then go for it if you want the extra money. If you want to get hired on, there are always opportunities. But it is not guaranteed.

Archived Looking for information regarding a job at a distribution center

Do you want an honest opinion? You need no job knowledge prior to starting. Absolutely none. That being said, you need common sense about you for any of the positions. If you want to have this as your career, and you are willing to learn, just pay attention and take notes. Ask questions, make...

And that's just it, there is nothing wrong with taking pride in your work. But you have to realize there comes a point where you are just "over-doing" your job. I'll keep performing how I've been performing for the time I've been here. Obviously it has been working good enough.

This is exactly the reason why many of us do not work any harder than we should. Just because I go up and above 100% for the day, doesn't mean I will get more in pay. I will do what my job entails, and end there. You are in a production environment, and you treat it as such. No more, no less...

I'll bet your GLs will love when you print that response out and show it to them. If you take pride in putting boxes in a dirty, dingy, dark truck. More power to ya. You're not going to get paid more than the person next to you that takes less effort. As long as the boxes are in the truck by...

As for the stacking of water on top of PIPO, outbound members really don't care. Honestly. If they can start their shift, load stuff as fast as possible, then cover it up with "nice walls" they will do it.

Archived Should I just quit and come back at a later time

Oh yeah, and don't plan on getting into Warehousing on any of the keys. In most DCs, the wait list for that department is very long. I have people at my DC that have been there 5+ years without getting transferred to Warehousing.

Archived Should I just quit and come back at a later time

Just stick it out, do your best in OB, and put in for the job change in the future. Maybe you can get into shape while doing this position. Here is my only tip to you, while you are in outbound building your walls. Depending on the boxes coming down, you can build two types of walls. I have...
