    Archived Best Practices?

I think stores often use this slower time of year to regroup on things that have slipped and to get new best practices put into place. It is frustrating when there isn't the hours and the manpower to get the work done as it should be, so I guess I will just say do the best you can as you are...

    Archived Being global...

I've found the trick to getting more global is to take advantage of other department's desperation. If you see or hear of shifts available in another area, let the lod know you are willing to help out even though you not trained in that area (it helps if you are willing to jump into new things...

    Archived Pre-paid scratch cards

When I first started as a cashier we would pretty frequently have guests who would come to check out with prepaid cards and a bunch of other items to be rung up and then when we'd get everything scanned in including the activation code on the card they would say--oops, they forgot something...

    Archived Cashing out giftcards

My state doesn't seem to have any cash-out laws, but I have dealt with a guest who had figured out how to bypass the issue. He buys things that will return for $4.99, groups the purchases onto separate receipts and pays for them with giftcards then gets cash back when he returns them due to the...

    Archived Being global...

I been in situations where I was shifting positions so frequently in just one shift that I've ended up helping the same guest in several completely different areas of the store, and they've asked me if I'm the only person works here! It does get a little awkward at times, but I think overall...

    Archived Pre-paid scratch cards

A couple of Christmas's ago we had many returns/exchanges one certain type Ipod prepaid cards with scratched-off numbers because the cards were defective. Many of these were returned by some of our most reliable guests so we had no reason to be suspicious. It is possible for a guest to have a...

    Archived lp audit/void

I wouldn't void out a red toss label on an item that had automatically defected out when scanned for a return. Target probably sets them up that way to avoid liability issues and it shouldn't be bypassed.

I went back and forth on this issue with our APTL. I was convinced that duplicate license plate shortage wasn't caused by double scanning because of the "this license plate has already been used" factor but he insisted it was. I tried really hard to prove him wrong but I wasn't able to and I had...

    Archived Advice on becoming GSTL

Thank you, mxr--I guess I did take it as a bit of an argument. There is quite a bit of overlap in what each role entails but there are some significant differences and it's true they are not the same job.

    Archived Advice on becoming GSTL

Ugh! I so sick of the GSA vs. GSTL debate! Clearly, GSA duties vary from store to store so arguing about what they do and don't do is pointless. (Apparently GSTL tasks also vary from store to store--no GSTL at my store has ever sorted ESIM). It's true that GSA don't do exactly the same work as...

    Archived Team member discount policy

There was a TM at my store who was fired for misusing her discount--at least that's the official reason given (she was buying giftcards with nonTarget-approved payment to pay for her break meals to get the discount). She was really let go for being terrible at her job, but when Target fires...

The walkies are a little intimidating at first. I tell everyone I've taught to use the walkie that they will make a fool out of themselves on it, but so has everyone else so don't worry too much about it and just go for it.
