My fellow TL's are setting me up for failure.

Play stupid games win stupid prizes. You acted like an asshole and now no one likes you. That’s what happens when you act like an asshole.

    Promoting at Target

There’s nothing storeside that isn’t a leadership position. There isn’t any other skill that is needed at increased levels. If you’re looking for that sort of career, IT seems to be a good option.

    Starbucks Team Leaders

“Hey guys! We just had a complaint about jewelry and I’m reviewing the policy with everyone. Just so you know you can’t wear any jewelry including piercings in Starbucks. It’s to make sure nothing gets dropped in the drinks that could hurt our guests.” “Blah blah blah.” “Yeah, I know no one...

    Vendors overstocking

What is it? They get a lot of latitude from corporate on seasonal Oreos.

    Vendors overstocking

Mostly no. If they bring in something I didn’t OK I will kick their orders until it is gone. Have done that a couple times this year. That said, if they have endcap space they can flex in another flavor IF they OK it with me and if they have demonstrated competency at keeping their stuff...

I'm losing my team and I don't know what to do.

Pay attention to what she assigns you and try to have it done before she asks. That will give you time to connect with your team and move things around. For example, have your team pull and put up price change first thing in the morning before she gets there.

I'm losing my team and I don't know what to do.

Are you walking your department and touching base with your team? One thing I see new leaders do is assume that direction from the ETL is tasks for them, when they can put those tasks on the team instead. If the ETL asks you to zone toys, you put a TM zoning toys. It’s a combination of being...

I'm losing my team and I don't know what to do.

You’re the one who isn’t getting toys cleared. You could move someone who does get done to help him. You could do his cardboard and backstock for him. Are the vehicles sorted well? The goal times in Greenfield don’t include walking back and forth from the back room or backstockinh or...

Does this hurt my chances at becoming a leader?

Can’t derail a train that was never on the track.

Being in development and having a crush on a team member.

It really boils down to whether you want the promotion or the date more. That said I see getting fired for harassment in your near future.

    Self-Evaluations

I keep a written file throughout the year of what to put in it. I’m a training TL and we are a training store so I list everyone I work with (even for just one day) and what we worked on. Any stats/metrics that we are good at, especially if it’s noted that we are best in the district or group...

    Does Target Care

I worked at a store for a different company where the employees had hidden a couch in the rafters. It was there for over a decade before management found it.

    Temporary team lead

Wow your SD is a moron. This is an ethics hotline call but I would also speak to an employment lawyer before alerting Target. Your SD should be fired.

It’s allowed right up until the point that HR has actual proof that the affair/relationship exists.

    Should HR Experts be leaders?

The PML is given the L so that they can tell anyone in the building to do or not do something and that person can be held accountable for insubordination.. PMLs and VMs work for the district, not the store. It’s especially important for the PML as many of the things they do can cause...

Should I be worried about my shot at a TL role?

Well you need to think about why your ETL would promote you when you already don’t get along with or respect one of your future peers. What are you bringing to the table that offsets hours of drama on a weekly basis? Because as a leader there isn’t anything you could bring to the table that...

    Realistic timeline TL-ETL

It really depends on what your personal life looks like, and the value of an ETL position changes as your life progresses.

Should I be worried about my shot at a TL role?

Probably not, if my experience watching TMs not get promoted is typical. Some have introspection and some don’t. Many think it’s all about seniority and not skill, usually because their parents had union jobs.

Should I be worried about my shot at a TL role?

I would hold off on doing that for at least a month. If you change your mind you’ve already burned that bridge and it’ll take you another year to get back to where you are today. Let yourself cool off before you make that decision.

Should I be worried about my shot at a TL role?

Your ETL has zero responsibility to explain the hiring choices to you. ZERO. You are not owed an explanation about anyone else in your building, and it would be extremely unprofessional for them to compare and contrast with you. If you can’t understand why someone else may have been chosen...
