Some of our GSAs just don't really care anymore. They'll ask "are you saving 5% with your Target REDcard today?" and drop it if they say no. A lot of the cashiers feel like they're harassing guest by asking EVERY TIME, and a lot of the GSAs get asked why they didn't get any REDcards that night...

The problem is that she just doesn't ask without a prize, and then we frequently won't make conversion. We have prizes almost all the time now because otherwise we don't get enough REDcards.

Funny, the opposite is true in our store. Our conversion rate is carried by a couple of cashiers, one of whom legit badgers people and will only ask for RedCards when there's good prizes available.

Our worst offender is a 49 year old woman who has a second job. And she ALWAYS takes 25-30 minute breaks, plus leaves her register occasionally to go shop and cash out.

I think that sounds like a very good idea. My store usually only has 2-3 cashiers at any time, so it's VERY annoying when someone just leaves right at their scheduled time, even though the person taking break before them isn't back yet.

Be respectful but still joke around and stuff. To a point, you should just mirror his behavior. Clearly he thinks you can joke around while still being professional, so you should be okay.

My store won't do gift card anymore, however we do let TMs pick out merchandise up to a certain value (one day it was $10 per RC... ONE day). Sometimes we'll offer free Starbucks, but I usually talk my way into something more useful (like socks).
