Archived Dealing with a lazy co worker

Nope they didn't nail them because this was the first time this happened and the HR-ETL said she wanted to give them a chance to correct their mistakes. It never happened because both quit a few months after that because they didn't like getting in trouble for coming in late and going home early.

Archived Dealing with a lazy co worker

There was an incident at my store in the past year. A couple of team members went to grab some fast-food, came back to the store, and then punched out for their lunch. They were gone for an hour. Of course though with the FFF culture HR reminded everybody they had to punch out before they went...

Archived What's the grossest thing you have ever seen/ found at target?

On opening day we had somebody take a dump in one of the fitting rooms and smeared it everywhere. I'm talking about the door, walls, and carpet.

    Archived Positive Target Canada News.

In the province that I'm from they must pay you for a minimum of 3 hours/shift. They can't cancel your shift if you've just clocked in. They could send you home but it would have to be with at least 3 hours pay. Apparently in my province they are within their legal right to cancel your shift so...

Guess what they've started to do in my store now ---cancel shifts. Yes that's right! I work in a Canadian store and depending on sales and forecast if they don't think they need you they're now calling you the day before telling you not to come in.

Archived Do you ever worry about free speech at Target?

At my store, store leadership accused a team member of flaunting his sexual orientation. They told him it was OK if he was gay but they asked him not to be so open about it while at work whether it be on the floor, in the backroom or off-stage. They said talking about sexual orientation can...

    Archived Canadian stores

There is a Target store in Niagara Falls, Canada. I was told by my STL that all the sports stuff is regionalized based on the team. We do carry CFL (Canadian Football League) stuff on a seasonal basis. For some reason we have limited hockey and baseball stuff year-round.

The POS systems are extremely user friendly, all it takes is less than an hour for you to be able to learn and be fairly independent as a backup person. And yes Canadian stores accept US money but there is an exchange rate.

Archived Can one decline to work in a certain area of the store?

I used to work for a small W-mart in a small city, McDonalds had their freezer in our backroom with a pad lock on it. Well our cart attendant used to date the McDonalds manager and they had a nasty breakup. He was in the backroom and saw her go into the freezer. He locked her in it and put the...

I love Freshness Wednesday, the look on the STL's face whenever we find stuff months past the expiration date is priceless! :P

Archived How Hard is Transfer to another store?

In Canada they're telling me they don't have a policy in place for transfers and the only way you could really transfer is by resigning and reapplying at another store. Several people transferred to a new store getting ready to open that wanted some experienced team members.

    Archived the gentleman's agreement....

Even though we have HR policing our breaks and lunches I don't know if they could be sued for lack of breaks. In my province the law states that you must take a 30-minute break (employer doesn't have to pay you for that break) for every 5 hours of work. That same law also says that while an...

    Archived the gentleman's agreement....

At our store TMs weren't taking their breaks. When asked why they said "Because my TL doesn't take theirs." Guess what! We now have HR policing everybody's breaks!

    Archived Approved..then.. Denied....

With hours being cut at our store and most people only working 4-8 hours/week our leadership has quickly realized you can't ask everybody to retain open availability if you're only giving them 1-2 4-hour shifts each week. I once submitted a time off request during a blackout period due to having...

    Archived Huddle Huddle Huddle

In our store we sometimes go days without huddles because its looked to be an interruption to our day. Because of the lack of staff on the floor every huddle is a smart huddle, it just all depends which area is hardest hit. Its usually shoes or seasonal though.
