To that one vendor. If you leave your coffee on top of one of our pop coolers and walk away without telling anyone, you really should be neither surprised nor upset when it gets thrown away as abandoned.

It's not really to go after them, as much as it is my answer to the question they always ask when performance reviews come around, or when you go in to ask about cross-training or development opportunities, "What have you done for us lately?"

Something I learned the hard way. Document everything. I have a composition book I bring to work every day. If I have a talk with leadership about pay, benefits, or development, I note it in the book. If they ask me to do something I'm not scheduled for, I note it in the book. If I receive a...

To That One Guest - II

To those innumerable guests. At the beginning of the transaction, I ask you if it will be on your RedCard. You say yes, then proceed to pull out pretty much everything except a RedCard. If I bring this to your attention, you tell me that you thought I said "Will this be on your credit card?"...

Archived Things Team Members [Leaders] Do/Pet Peeves Thread

We used to have an ETL-GE who was a micro-manager. After one of her numerous lectures on the virtues of straighter lines of carts (To get them any straighter would require laser guidance), I had had enough. I waited until I was in the middle of the parking lot, and mumbled about her, using the...

Frankly, I would love to hack into their PA system so that every time the drive up horns go off, anywhere in the chain, they go off over every speaker in headquarters. See how fast they pick a less psychosis-inducing alert tone.

To that one team member at the neighboring Target. Thank you for going above and beyond in trying to find the item we didn't have for the guest at the service desk. I'm sorry that you didn't have it either, but it was clear that you searched high and low for it.

The best part is when they ask me about it, as if I wrote the supplies list. Honey, I'm gay as an Easter parade, no kids, and I've been out of elementary school for more than three decades. I have zero idea why your kids need five boxes of crayons.

The various alarm panels at GS. During our remodel last year, the refrigeration alarm was going off for days, and just after there was some sort of malfunction with the fire alarm, and the panel was making a sound something akin to someone flatlining in a medical drama.

To that one ETL, we had a nice chat in June about me cross-training in GM, something I have been trying to get since I was hired 19 years ago. Then we had one cart attendant (front of store attendant, whatever) get fired and another put in his notice so he could go away to college, and my...

    Archived Ghosting

Forever ago, when my store was preparing to open, they hired three cart attendants during our mass hire. I was one of them. Of the other two, one never showed up for orientation, and the other quit after seeing the cart attendant safety video. (Do any of you remember the safety video with the...

To that one guest. You could have come inside the building, told the guest service desk that you had a large item that you needed carried into the store, and I would have brought a flat to bring it in. Instead, you took two carts from the corral, put the item on the bottom, with one cart on...

Archived The hell is bias training or whatever they call it?

Yesterday, I got called back to the HR office because in her infinitesimal wisdom, she forgot to have us record on Workbench that we sat through the training.

To that one group of guest: Obrigada pela opportunidade de falar portugues com voces. (Thank you for the opportunity to speak Portuguese with you). Another team member asked me to come over because I am multilingual, and the guests were speaking what she thought was Spanish. I quickly realized...

    Holding items for guests?

In general, we don't do holds at my store. On the occasion that a guest insists, they are told that we can't hold past the end of the day, and if an item in the hold is needed to fulfill an online or drive-up order, it will be taken.
