    door policy

Really varies at my store. Sometimes wait more than 10 minutes in the morning for entry, along with 5 - 10 team members. We all rush to clock in. I have no idea what the key holder could be doing in those 10 minutes between 7:50 and 8:00 that is so amazingly important. Of course, then since...

Who answers the phones in your store?

No sympathy for the phone system today. First real day in fitting room, back in the day when fitting room answered the phones, I was given a 5 minute "training" and left alone. Figured out how to transfer calls, answer basic questions, LOD always took employee calls. Hardlines was really good...

    Target Secrets

There are no cameras in the fitting room area. Lots of folks stop by to check their phones, including some TL's. HR isn't your friend, no matter how nice they may seem. Always, and I mean always, take your lunch on time, doesn't matter if you walk away from your position without a sub...

    Archived Back-Up Rant

I'm assigned to softlines but get called by name to back up because the GSA's know I'm quick on the register and also get some Redcards. One in particular won't release me, even when there are no lines, so I've learned to turn off my light and leave when she isn't looking. Of course, this...

    Archived Another Fitting Room complaint.

Our FR stays open until the store closes. I've had to ask FR guests to finish trying on their items and move to the checkout as soon as possible when announcing store close. I won't mention what happens with the reshop.... it does find a home before I clock out. I've been the only SL TM on a...

Archived What questions do you hate being asked the most at work?

When working FR and answering the phone. Do you have "item''? Check the Zebra and it says 1 available, ah, right. Maybe 1. So now, I need to decide to tell a white lie to the caller and tell them we don't have it because I know that unless it's a blue moon on the third Wednesday of the...

Archived Specific types of guests that are annoying

Teens who torment electronics and Starbucks like clock work every Friday after school. Cart racing in the aisles; a few that really enjoy destroying tables of clothing. They turn up the volume on all of the electronics. Same little turds every week who push the limits until we much too...

Archived Is there a case for overstocking?

Think it depends on the circumstances. 99% of the time it's a bad idea but when things like diapers are on sale and the shelves are empty throughout the day, I will overstock the shelves to keep from sprinting to the call button and fetching because folks are filling their carts to get a $20...

Archived You Can't Clock Out Until...

I had a random cashier shift and the GSTL said I needed to stay until she told me to leave because other TMs were going to hit 8 hours if she kept them and I was working a 6 hour shift and could stay. I wasn't too happy since I was opening the next morning and I'm a SL TM not a cashier. But...

    Archived Cart Runs

My store will have a 'cart party' over the walkie and most are expected to participate. By participate, it's making at least one trip outside and bringing a line of carts. If you want, you can make a second sweep, although it's optional. There is one SL TM who will not go outside, but she...

    Archived Red Card Cashier incentives?

Let's see, got a candy bar once and then a promise from the GSTL of a free soft drink that never happened. Also received a few high fives and congratulations. I'm a SL TM, who only backs up cashiers. Frankly, I could care less about RC's except that the GSTL's are generally nicer to me...

Archived Honoring price challenge under $20 rule

I'm in SL but it seems that many of my SL colleagues have walkie problems when called for cashier backup. Anyway, had a series of blueberries in a box without barcode. First time, asked the guest, no idea about price. Checked the market cheat sheet but no blueberries. Flipped the light...

    Archived TM and cell phones

I use the Target app on my phone all the time, especially when finding the aisle number for items for guests needing help. It's a good way to get guests to download the Target app when they see how it helps them shop. I had a guest looking for a particular item and was getting rather testy...

Archived Do you guys take all your 15 min breaks?

My store posts the software break schedule about 50% of the time, but rarely during Q4. Our SL team really only looks at lunches and adjusts breaks on our own. I think other teams follow it more closely. It's a little messed up. One day my schedule was 8 - 4:30. They had my first break at...

To that one Team Member I - ARCHIVED

TTOTM: Thanks for giving me advice when I was up against the 5 hour lunch break and assigned FR. Yep, I asked the assigned TL who was covering for our usual TL several times about the lunch schedule and he said he would handle it but didn't. Then when the clock got close, he didn't answer the...

    Archived Bag Rant

I agree. The cart attendants at my store are superheros. True, they aren't gathering carts in 10 feet of snow in -20 degree weather, but they gather carts in summer in 100 degree heat, deal with the restrooms and spills, and in my store, back up GS and cashier on occasion.

    Archived Bag Rant

Scientific America has some interesting results.... Do Plastic Bag Bans Work? - https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/do-plastic-bag-bans-work/ Regardless, I'm a fan of folks using reusable bags. Don't agree that CA is failing but I won't go political as this isn't the point of this...

    Archived Bag Rant

I'm in CA and we have the .10 bag requirement. BTW - CA has seen a reduction in plastic in the oceans and landfills as a result of this legislation. Guess since it's been here for a year, folks are pretty good about asking for bags or having their own. I try wait to finalize the transaction...

Archived Funny things on the Target Reddit page.

I have two friends with service dogs. One is a guide dog as his owner is legally blind, the other is a dog for a vet with severe PTSD. These dogs are trained for months and are welcome in my home as they signal when they need to go outside. My store, however, doesn't care and allows all...

    Archived To Softlines I go...

I don't understand Target's strategy with focusing TMs to up sell. First the FR becomes a selling station (which hasn't had success in my store), now this post. As a SL TM, I answer a bunch of questions and always ask guests if they need help, but I don't stalk them. Frankly, stalking isn't...
