    Becoming a TL

Where I work the carrot and stick is real. The bench fucking sucks lol. I've seen good people passed up too many times. I was lucky and my boss quit, and I was the only TM who asked for the job while the kids on the bench were sitting around waiting to be asked. So no bench, no bullshit, just...

Getting yelled at by team member

Sorry, that one sounds difficult. My approach, and I've only had to do this twice, is that the TM would absolutely not be allowed to just walk away after going off, but would have to wait in TMSC for myself and another leader (hopefully their leader) for a witness to the coaching. Outlining how...

    Leader ownership questions?

Depends on volume. If you're just now getting a FOTL maybe it's doable? But when you have 20+ TMs to chase around and your store is struggling, it's already the hardest job in the store aside from Market TL (imo). I'd love to be able to break away and help the rest of the store, but the first...

    Specialty Style

Style in our store is often neglected and I really feel for them. I try not to pull them for OPUs because of this but it still happens. It seems like we're doing a special kind of chasing our tail where style gets screwed until there are 60 repacks stacked to the sky and we absolutely have to...

Business Unit Status TL Led Workshops

Sounds fun, do you know what your topic is?

Best TL 😇 is leaving, but the evil ETL 😈 remains.

Definitely a maturity thing. Some are even ignorant enough to give attitude when asked to remove them. Those are the times I wish Target would let me light them up lol.

    Prepare for next

It was You should get an email/workday stuff soon. Roughly an hour or two of prework? The first session was talking about communication styles, especially related to how your circle of people expands and how impactful your communication becomes as you progress into more responsibility. There...

    Team leader

Our D/U is part of the front end because w/division of labor it only works that way. It wouldn't make sense to give them to FF because then we'd need a second TL, and the front end would no longer need 2 TLs. Unless they want to make all of our lives easier and give us another TL slot...please? lol.

What Qualities Do You Like To See In a SD

One thing I like are blitzes or whatever people call them, where all available tm's break away from what they are doing and jump in to accomplish some goal quickly. I feel like these are good for awareness of what's going on in the store and team spirit, and are fun because it gets people...

    Service & Engagement TL Questions

It will be hard to get everything done because you have to be available for guests all the time. You can make your job a lot easier by training your team to solve their own problems instead of relying on you (YES I trust you to give a guest $3 off without calling me!). If you're able to do that...

    Target’s Sage Advice

Yeah people are really gearing up for their superday every day, just going in like a world champion for 15 an hour, because when the drive up team is feeling tired and unmotivated that day, we can just send them to the Performance Institute.

Best TL position to apply for and be in?

Dang, only time I've blind cc'd is when emailing a guest, to keep my partner/boss in the loop. Also it helps to have some sort of relationship with those TLs, so that they're more comfortable with you writing on their team members. Above board is the way to be, imo. Better for trust and a better...

Best TL position to apply for and be in?

SETL seems to be getting the most nods for lower workload, but it's moment-to-moment stressful in a unique way that is hard to appreciate until you've done it. Recommend it only to people with better than average anxiety/stress management. It can also be a dead end job, as SDs may not want to...

    Promoting at Target

Important point. I guess the way I've tried to reconcile this is to see that racism/sexism/etc actually create situations that cannot be resolved fairly, which should really drive home how destructive these things are.

    Starbucks Team Leaders

Makes some sense to do so, especially with Drive Up coming soon. I'm concerned they'll try to eliminate an SETL position at my store (currently have 2 SETLs and the SBux lead), and have the SBux lead and one SETL over the front. Anything like this happen to anyone else?

    Promoting at Target

I wouldn't go that far. Target is progressive in hiring and promotions, and from what I've seen handles race and gender pretty well. It could be that some of us are conditioned to a somewhat racist world and are thus uncomfortable with the change toward equality. It could be that you've...

    Promoting at Target

Internal can be a struggle, and if your store is full of solid tms and tls looking to move up, and you aren't some undeniable top talent who is blowing them away but merely a very good TM ready to promote, well, good luck. Strap in because it could take a few years. You may need to get lucky...

    Other closing leads struggling?

Sorry to hear it. Our closer has to decide every night which really important stuff doesn't get done, and that's on a smooth night. God forbid something happens in the store, like a couple bad spills or a reportable incident, or TM behavior issues. Looks like one of the most demoralizing jobs in...

GM TL that is going insane, losing all motivation and ready to give up

Don't take this the wrong way OP, but reading your frustration is comforting, because front of store is getting cut to the point that I can't give the guests the great service that I want to. Our lines are getting longer ("one plus one" is now more like "one plus two"), I hear the guests say...
