This forum is the first time I have ever heard of the phrase "brand team member". That's not to be confused with "being brand". I get that and I've heard it a lot and I understand what it means. Curious to know, though, if all stores have "brand team members" and I've just never heard of them referred to as that or if this is simply the new title for what used to be referred to as "specialists" in a given area?

I had heard that "specialist" used to be a position with a pay increase and everything but that they had done away with it to save the company money. So... all this time I was a "brand tm" and didn't know it till I started reading posts on the Break Room. Go figure... :pardon:

This is one of the real problems with Target.... they are not clear WTF job title you are hired into.

When I was a specialist, the grid never had the little SP by my name.... even though my only pay stub said I was a specialist and I made the money of one. (FYI for new people.... back when there were specialist, the grid would print with the letters "SP" next to your name just like it has "TL" for team leads)

When I was promoted to sales floor TL, my online pay stub had me down as a GSTL. It took HR about 8 months to fix it after I told them.

I honestly think that at some stores, HR doesn't even bother to properly classify people. I think that when the ETL-HR hires/promotes someone, there must be a little drop down box on workbench where they change the persons title..... I have a feeling lots of HR's just half ass it because they are too lazy to scroll all the way down to find the right title, and just click one of the first job titles they see.

Team Members were Level 1
Specialists were Level 2
Team Leaders were Level 3.

Specialists were looked upon as "assistant team leaders" in most areas.

Specialists were in Cash Office, Photo Lab, Electronics, Shoes, Jewlery, Receiving, Hardlines, Market/pfresh, and a few others.

If I remember correctly, the only specialist positions were entertainment, electronics, shoes, jewelry, cash office, photo lab, signing, and receiving/chargebacks (and TPS, SrTPS, APS, and SrAPS, but those are still around since AP is treated as a separate componet from stores). Most got 40 hours and had closing nights and weekend rotations where they were the acting team leader. Many were allowed to coach, although they could do nothing formal. For all intents and purposes they were team leaders. And let me tell you, those specialty areas were by and far run much better back then.

I am a brand team member in softlines....it "usually" means you are responsible for keeping an area to Target brand and if the team leads are not there you are an acting team lead. Softlines in our store is "supposed" to have 4 brand members and one specialist. We are down a brand team member...the jewelry, accessory and sleepwear one NCNS her way out the door. The other 3 are supposed to be RTW, GBI and men's and infant hardlines. I don't have an area....our old ETL was trying to get us to be more global and not have areas. I am actually beginning to like being the only one not tied to a specific area. I did my first complete adjacency today. I know the entire softlines area. I have even hardlines team members coming over to me for team lead questions.

My store has one for in stocks as well. Kind of like a "captain". Since the logistics tl has both BR and IS our captain acts as a tl so the real tl can focus on br.

I'm an SL brand team member in shoes... but the "assistant team lead" title fits as well. When VA's are running I'm generally knee deep in assisting my TLs. Once it slows again I'm back in shoes to try and get it back to brand standards. Keeps me busy.

i used to be a captain for flow, its a hard job when the TL isnt there, esspecially for flow
