Just curious. Our SFTMs or Front end is always calling the backroom for team lifts and carry outs. It's pretty annoying because it's just something that almost anyone working should be able to lift with ease like 55inch TVs or mini fridges or cube shelves.

It's like arkward when the TM and Lod just standing there while me or the other BRTM just beasts the item without help

Can you guys lift? It might be because my SF team is mostly female.

While I'm not the most physically fit fucker out there, I can definitely handle a lot of the team-lift labelled stuff on my own. TV's aren't shit, although the mini fridges are a bit difficult due to the bulk. The heavy shit like shelves I can handle by myself, but when it comes to bulky items like mini fridges and furniture without proper hand positions (Latches, holes in the box, etc) I usually get some help with.

As a BRTM on the smaller end of the body-size spectrum I can 90% of the stuff on my own...honestly, it has more to do with bulk/handling than it does weight. I can lift heavy stuff if I've got the little hand cut outs in the cardboard...but I've had stuff that's easily 15-20lbs lighter than the heaviest stuff, and I'm completely useless on my own, because I can't get a good hold on it.

As for carry outs, I'd probably call for a team lift on anything that was even remotely awkward/heavy, just because guests get super annoying when they see you handling "their" stuff.

As annoying as it is, I don't really blame them. Before I worked retail I think I had this mental image of everything being quintuple bubble-wrapped and handled with care until it was placed on the shelf. ...and I imagine most guests feel the same. Now that I've seen how stuff is really handled I'm kind of amazed anything ever makes it to the salesfloor in one piece. Most TMs understand there's a way you handle freight in the backroom/when the store is closed, and there's a way you handle freight when guests can see you. It's not that you're really being any more reckless when you're not being watched...you just take advantage of the fact that you know the limits of the product and how much 'abuse' it can endure.

So if I was working the front end and called for a team carry out, it wouldn't be because I was lazy/weak, but because I don't want a guest whining about how I'm handling their stuff.

I work with bikes and TVs on the daily. If I call a team lift, it's HEAVY. I'm also only 5'4 and under 150.

Probably not best practice but meh.

I remember last year one of the big Wicker chairs had a team lift sticker one it and it probably weighed all of 5 lbs. Some of the stuff that has stickers on it is dumb.

Can you stop stereotyping everybody that isn't on your team?

Yes, I can lift a 55inch TV or mini fridge or cube shelf myself.

Should I? No, it's probably not safe for my back and I'll probably injure myself. I've done it before. I've also proceeded to just ignore it and move on.

They call for assistance because it's heavy. For christ's sake, if you got injured on the job I know you'd be here complaining ENDLESSLY about it.

Me and my STL are both powerlifters, hence why i love talking to him because we can relate even though he could be considered my dad at our age differences.

*flexes online muscles*

In all seriousness, i'd show some pics/videos but ya know..

I hurt my back a couple years putting up shelves in the fixture room. And a shelf weighs what? 10lbs? It was the repetitive motion and awkwardness that injured me.

So, if I don't feel like I can safely lift something, I call. And I would expect everyone else to do the same.

hey at least in your store they come. in my store? crickets until the LOD comes.

aaand PLEASE! speak to me when you have a shitty pallet jack they desperately needs oil but is the 'best' working one in the fleet and you have a PALLET full of soymilk and simply orange juice because FDC likes to put it all on ONE pallet.

At my store, salesfloor does team lifts & carry outs. Back room is way too busy with flexes & pulling stuff down with wave or forklift. When they need help, mother will ask us(mostly at night).
Safety & teamwork are the important things at my store.

^ Nothing personal Oath. It's just after years of being called some very unpleasant names by dayside I'm enjoying the debt coming due. 😉

I always call my friend to help with team lifts then we stand outside shooting the breeze while we wait for the people to pull up and work together to put team lift items in the vehicle. Sometimes I do it myself. It really depends on how big, size wise, it is or how awkward it is. I'm not necessarily worried about weight... I just don't want to ruin the guests car in one way or another. I've had tms who have put holes in the top interior of a car because they just forcefully shove stuff in there.

Usually I can handle most of the items but right now I'm dealing with an injury that's just not getting better. I think word is finally getting out but for a bit after I brought the doctor's note Hardlines hated me because I would ask for help for a 20 lb item and not be able to help the team member with handling it.

The other one that people are annoyed with me over is ladders. I won't go up a ladder unless it's one of the self-bracing ones in the back or someone is bracing it for me.

Yes I lift... milk weighs about 8lbs a jug. Biceps to kill for. My grip rivals a meat packer. But I'm not getting coached on lifting something alone. Ever. We don't bother br once outside br though.

And yet, the ginormous travel systems in infant furniture don't have the stickers.

Since we usually don't have a backroom after 7:00, we definitely all participate in carry-outs. Often, it doesn't need two people, but it is for someone with physical limitations of some kind. Many of us smaller people will just ask if we can get it by ourselves.
