I work 5 days out the week. 4 out of 5 of those days I am in Baby. Then I get to do the repacks. It's easier some days than others. Monday I had 4 pallets of mostly food and formula. 3 carts of repacks. A pull tub of diapers and 2 pulls of random baby stuff.

I worked on this from 6am-11:30 am and still had 2 full carts of repacks.

I really hate when I don't finish. I guess being OCD doesn't help. But our baby section is for sure much more organized then it was when I first started!! I honestly believe Better Presentation=More Sales.. It does get kind of lonely though because I'm working on it alone everyday.

I've heard a lot of people tell me Baby is easy. I wonder if that's why they have me working that aisle everyday then. WE GO THROUGH A LOT OF BABY STUFF EVERDAY so it constantly needs to be replenished...

I guess I like it because I like knowing what I'm doing. So it's cool. Plus you can totally jam out to music without bothering anyone else!! 🙂

I don't mind the same thing every day, but I do mind the same thing all day.

As a cashier I worked service desk, worked on a lane from time to time, worked at FA, and covered the GSA/TL's breaks regularly so had much more variety to my day than most cashiers - to the extent that many cashiers came to me to tell me they needed change when I didn't have the keys because they didn't actually even realize I was a fellow cashier and not a supervisor, just a cashier the GSA's and GSTL knew was flexible and would do whatever was most needed at the time.

The variety helped keep me sane when bagging items all day stuck on a lane would have driven me nuts.

I'm flow/instocks/shoe brand team member, so I don't do the same thing every day! I love being flow because I like the physical aspect of it. Shoes is great because there's ALWAYS something to do. Instocks I don't much care for because of the way the company is dealing with it and my TL isn't that great either.. but I don't get scheduled over there too much anymore xP

That was one thing about being a Signing Ninja, your week was kinda laid out for you and you know what projects are upcoming but you are working every inch of the the store and have unexpected challenges on a daily basis.
I worked in a book store where I was responsible for one section and it wsas good in many ways. I knew where everything was because I had shelved it and could make recommendations accordingly.

But I have to say that that being all over the store and seeing everything is better for me.

Whoever said baby is easy was lying. I love baby, but I don't think it's easy. Then again, it would be easy if other people came around and helped maintain it. If I'm gone for days at a time, I likely come in to it being a mess. Lately I've been forcing other people to work in the area, so it's not terrible. Also would be easier if my etl log started pushing flow to focus on location accuracy instead of pushing for an empty back room.

I worked in a library and found that getting my own section was helpful there. I think "owning" a department sorta makes the department a reflection on you so it's easier to care about keeping it nice and presentable.

I love when people say ... (fill in) is easy. As in your case ... Baby. Love it! I've worked all over the store. There are few easy jobs if you are doing them correctly. Some take more brainpower. Some more physical power.

I do plano/signing. Always something new. You get learn a certain rhythm/pattern to the year. That gets boring.

The thing that gets boring is the constant struggle to maintain organization in the fixture room and signing area. People just dig through it like animals.

I once trained a seasonal hire in hardlines who said she didn't realize that all we did was "line up bottles on shelves" all day. She quit shortly thereafter.

After working in hardlines and backroom I find myself truly enjoying Produce. There is a variety of things to do: culling, cleaning, filling, stocking, signing, merchandising, ordering, backstocking and pulling. It's like a mini-store where I have to know all department roles in the store and apply them all to the Produce department - a lot of variety. That being said, I miss having the hours we used to have. The place has fallen apart in 2014.

I've come to enjoy it too much, I guess... every time they call me up for backup I want to scratch someone's eyes out.

Working in the backroom we do the same process everyday but different variables are thrown in from time to time. I am a creature of Habit so I dont mind it....however, the work place politics are another story

Yes! I had a SFA the other day ask me how long it took to organize baby. I told her when I first started I needed a PDA badly. But then once I got it straightened it was a piece of cake to get it back together. The bottle and clothing aisles are ALWAYS a DISASTER after I've had a day off!

I wish people would keep up with it because it sucks coming back and there's stuff from all over the store in the area. Makes trying to stock the crap a little more time consuming. I'll never understand two things. Why people are too lazy to put something back. Even when it's a shelf above/below!! SMH. And why people insist on taking the bottle out of the box when theirs frickin displays!!!

Ughh.....Anyway when I worked at a gas station we would take a section, such as the cigarillo case or the chew and organize it. We'd call it our baby. Mine was the back stock.

Well Baby literally is My Baby!! 🙂

I feel the same way about the cooler/freezer in my store. I cant stand coming back from a day off and someone didn't push their pulls etc

Since I sprained my wrist unloading the truck a couple weeks ago. (The person unloading stuff to 25/26/27 had took off so I had to do 25/26/27/28/29/30 alone because no one would help. 28 is our snacks, and I ended up being in a super rush trying to unload those heavy things of water/juice.) So I've been zoning a lot and then working on Baby as soon as the truck is unloaded and I had another TM help me for the first week and damn did it go by much quicker!!!!!!!! I was able to focus on the baby food, which takes the longest right away!!! I ended up in HBA helping out after break because we finished so quickly. Of course once they had me working alone again, here comes 4 pallets LOL and many Pulls and Repacks.... -_-

When I used to stock the cooler at the gas station, I never understood why people would fill an entire rack because they are trying to make sure there isn't a hole. For example: Full row of Grape Fanta. Zero Orange Fanta right next to it. The person could just put a few Grape to make it look nice and fill the hole but nope, they fill the whole damn row. Then you gotta take them all out to fix it once you have the product in stock......Ohh the struggle.

Plano is your best friend. While the process is the same your in a new area every day and you get to see all the cool new items before everyone else. It is one of the few reasons why I switched to it and did it for many years.

Im starting to think Plano is the best job at the store increasingly every day...you hardly EVER work nights, have the same schedule for the most part, and usually get close to full time hours.and if anyone elses plano team is like mine...NEVER have to backup cashier or answer calls

Flow never has to back up cashier or answer calls either. I love that part. The closest I get to people interaction is telling them where to find something......After cashiering for 9 years, it's heaven.....

I'm a GSA so I have some gsa shifts, some guest service shifts, and some cash office shifts. I don't do the same thing every day and I LOVE it!! I cashiered for a year and a half and while the job wasn't bad...I got SO BORED. I'm just so grateful to get to run around like a chicken with my head cut off...it totally beats standing in one spot all day asking rude people if they want a red card.

I am currently a cashier who would like to promote to TL someday. While I understand my position is very routine and often boring, I'm only making minimum wage. I don't expect to be having fun at my job.

Now, if I become a TL, I'll very likely take a lot more pride in my work.

Backroom Day is great. There's always something to do, always a deadline to beat. I may do the same things every day but there's always a few things that get tossed at me and I have to figure out how to restructure my workload. Backroom day had definitely helped me learn how to manage my time and to be realistic with my goals. I'm the only BRTM that WILL NOT let caf's roll.. One of the things I like best about that position is that there are so many metrics that tell me how well (or poorly) I'm doing my job.

Flow is SSDD. Some of my TMs demanded being in the same area each day and others liked to be moved around. Then we had some TMs who would complain about doing the same thing but when you moved them somewhere else they felt offended, like I felt they weren't doing their job correctly. My preference was to have as many people trained to do everything so I could fill voids when TMs called out. I definitely do not miss retail.

every day at Target is absurd shit show. Around the holidays it gets five thousand times worse. It's like all the people who never shop come out just for this reason. That's why I drink.

The times I like best are when I can work several different areas in a week.
Having been global, the variety kept things fresh & sharp.
Doing the same thing day after day (especially when you know it's gonna get trashed) gets old fast.

I usually close market three nights in a row, and I really look forward to a hardlines shift at some point in the week. This week I got a softlines shift though. >_> It's nice to have something to change it up.

Just to add to what I said before, sometimes something I like about working in the same area is that I can plan how to break things up. If I work early, I usually avoid baby, but today, I came in after a bunch of people and they left it for me. My goodness, that zone looked like it'd been untouched for a week, then add in the fact that my store's flow team has been just putting things everywhere. I'll find a chunk of a few sizes of something on one rack, walk a rack or two away and find another chunk, etc etc. Today, I found one style of pajamas in 5 different places. It's madness. Anyway, what I was saying... So I zone a section each day, and hopefully keep the maintenance of the chunks I already did until I eventually have a really great zone.

I'd zone all of it in one day, but it's really so bad that it's not even possible. Then add in the daily 4x4, the backup cashiering, the needy guests, and it's even less possible.

That's why I liked GSA/GSTL so much to be honest... It was all guest oriented so, as annoying as guests are, you always had something different and new every day.

I've been a cashier for a year now and I started hating it after a month or so into my job. I knew what I was signing up for, so I'm kind of at fault, but at the same time I don't like just standing in one spot waiting for guests. I like to move around. I like to fix things. I like being active. Being a cashier you're doing the same thing every day and it gets so tiring and boring. I'd much rather be in hardlines or softlines where they're constantly moving around..
