Archived Groupon E-Gift Cards

A week or so ago groupon ran a deal where if one downloaded their mobile app you would get a $10 Target e-gift card for $5. It functions just like a normal Target gift card including showing the balance in price inquiry and can be used at Target.com. At my store everyone seems to think this is some sort of scam and is not to be accepted under any circumstances. As far as I can tell this is a completely legitimate offer and the people in my store are just idiots.

Has anyone else run into these gift cards and how has your store handled them?

I've had a few guests use them without any problems (other than the first guest not understanding why I needed the barcode on her screen). I haven't heard anything about it from my GSTLs and GSAs. How Groupon does it, I have no idea, but we'll see.
