Old thread, but for anyone this could help now, as I am sure it could..... Give it right back to them, but in acceptable terms.....
My PPTL is known as the most unfriendly and biggest asshole in my store... I see right through that and give them a jib of my own, everytime I can. Not only can some people respect that, but it also makes you more memorable, just remember to give them a smirky smile, right back after you do. oddly enough I think they like my more after I have given them these "back talks" probably because it makes work less boring.

What's weird is that I think this TL feels very underappreciated in their position. As a SrTL, I like to always thank people, even for small things. I got a vibe card that basically thanked me for thanking them. It's funny that this TL responds to the kind of positive reinforcement that I was seeking when I was under them.
