So I strongly believe after finding out I was pregnant, target store number #### has had it out for me. In being pregnant they have me in the style department always walking, not what i applied for, but what i agreed to because i was desperate. Everyone at the store can agree I am always working extremely hard, I always come early to work, however, I defected an item almost a month ago, and you know when you defect something and throw it away, it's trash. Well a customer had taken socks out of a package, and I defected it, in doing so I took a pair of socks for myself. They also accused me of stealing 2 extra shirts that I actually do have a receipt for. I didn't find it til i got home. I have already signed the statement saying i stole 3 items and now i've called hr to take it back because i have correct evidence. As far as the defected socks, after speaking with a co-worker, the whole style team, let alone team, has been doing it for years?! So why was I targeted and so late. Maybe because my mother who had cancer was in the hospital and i tried to call in and got chewed out and came in anyway. Then she died, called in for my first shift, came into my second (i was working a double). Then the police were at my house due to a dv situation, but target doesn't accept police reports, I'm also sick and got a doctors note, target doesn't give 2 f**ks . Or is it because I am 1 of 5 black employees in the entire store. Only colored person in my department. I am sick of target, and i will be suing. Any advice on this? I'm still on the schedule btw.

A lot to unpack here so bear with me. “Taking” a pair of socks 🧦 for yourself automatically puts you at fault for Theft. Paying for anything after the fact is commendable yes. However the fact still remains that you took something that you initially didn’t pay for. Any Business (Not just Target 🎯) you steal something, you will be fired or fined. The fact that (others within your store 🏬) were doing it holds Zero 0️⃣ merit. They were not caught, you were. You were not fired for any other reason than taking something that was not yours. Pregnancy, Race, Work ethic did not play any role in the termination. Theft is the sole reason. As far as suing, I’m not a “lawyer” but to get caught stealing then to sue. What grounds are you suing for? Because Target 🎯 will use the theft incident against you. Remove your self from the store as quietly as possible and find another means of employment. Good luck in your future endeavors.
 
Almost everyone is on their feet all day, unless you are in leadership and you have to do meetings, schedules, coachings and other stuff on the computer. They probably have something on just about everyone in a file somewhere waiting for when they want to push them out the door and then they will bring it up. The trouble of keeping you started to outweigh the benefits you brought.

I work style and thru the years have done lots of defects. The thought to take something never crossed my mind. You got what you deserve.

This was never an accepted practice but may have been done more back in thw day, but the defective process has been under more and more scrutiny the past few years and definitely much more with all the recent updates.

No, not back in the day, I mean employees at my old store still do that. Quite, often.

ASANTS, but this would absolutely never fly at my store. I even asked if it was okay for me to buy things that I had marked down. (Was told that as long it was available for guest purchase for a time - same as for street-dated merch - then it was okay.)

About the only exception is for holiday candy where a bag has broken open inside the case and then it's put in the break room, not taken home by a TM.
 
it's been my experience that corps in general, not just Target, are weirdly triggered by dumpsters and specifically the legality of copping shit placed therein...I can count on all 12 of my AI-generated hands the number of times managers/leads have thrown fits when I asked about the possibility of grabbing a damaged-out item already destined for the landfill, where said item is apparently fated by the indomitable will of corporate to rest until Sol commences its red giant phase (in keeping with their investor-facing greenwashing "carbon neutral by 4025" marketing)

that said, it's likely that the real possibility of abuse by unscrupulous wankers who absolutely would and do grab a Zebra and damage out an entire shopping list to take home for $0 is the reason why rooting through Target's dumpster is haram...if there's one thing corps hate more than you getting free shit illegally, it's you getting free shit legally and without suffering some sort of disastrous karmic calamity in return

I feel like you get my point more, but the woman also said that she saw the package was already damaged and open because we have zoom in cameras, that's my only alibi besides me showing my manager first and asking if i should defect it.

Taking things without asking is never ok.

Go ahead and turn in those statements, get them fired as well.
 
I am surprised that they offered you signed written statements from a store where you were fired from for doing the same thing that got you fired. That could be used as evidence against them.
Yes, I'm suing, it will be used against them. They also admitted to doing it in the same room I was "caught" in, months/years prior to my hire. I also managed to find a screenshot of the receipts of the shirts they said I stole, they locked me out of every account I had associated with target, as well as, only giving me a portion of my last check, I will wait until the actual payday to see, but if I don't receive the rest? There's gonna be hell to pay.
