Mine is May 4.

WHO THE FUCK THOUGHT DOING INVENTORY WHEN THE STORE IS OPEN WAS A GOOD IDEA.

It starts at 6pm wtf

Someone tell Norm the guy who does the Retail comic this could be a nice little shakeup to the inventory conics this year

Still a terrible idea. I mean what about pulls and stuff

6pm-10pm The backroom is closed. No pulls or anything while they count.

After closing, then its quick Super Duper Zone. They count. You will help with skew checks. Then do confirmation counts on high risk items. Then Super Duper Zone after that.

I've done inventory before but this just seems dumb.

idk what they expect us to tell the guests.

That's the way inventory is done. If you've done it before you should know this.....

How else could it be done.

The salesfloor is done overnight. In all my years with target the backroom has always been done during the day/evening when the store is open.

Unless they bring in a bunch more people it would be impossible to count the entire store overnight. They already have like 40 people from a outside company come in.

This year they are having stores count certain areas before the store closes. Should be interesting....

Our store always does backroom inventory while the store is open. Once inventory starts we stop dropping CAFs and autofills. As soon as the backroom is cleared we drop the O/N autofills and pull, however we can't push until the salesfloor inventory is done (starts as soon as the last guest is done and reshop is put away). Actually we can start pushing aisles as they finish.

They've counted under stock on the salesfloor (electronics and jewelry) while we were open starting a couple, maybe four, years ago. They'd usually start it about an hour before the store closed. We can't zone or push until the inventory is done. Recounts and everything must be finished before you start putting new items on the shelves. We never have a truck the day after inventory.

last year they scheduled me overnight for inventory without even asking me first. it was just me, another team member and the rest were all the tls and etls. i was not pleased, would rather not do it again

Ah inventory how I love you. Doing financials = 8 hours of sitting in a chair listening to my music while I write down random DPC(I)s and price on a piece of paper.

For me I won't accept the no DPCI financials at my table unless the person bringing it to me gives me a department class and price of a similar item, every time they try to dump and run I make them take it back with them until a get my info. After a couple return trips they get the idea, and it only takes them an extra minute, instead of me having to consult an area or make up my own DPCs and price.

When we did inventory at the Big Box Book Store we usually had to send home at least one or two people because they were concomitant.
I had one doing ISBNs backwards.
Have you ever had problems like that?
Ever to tell a supervisor to cut someone loose?

I was still brand new when inventory happened last year so I managed to avoid that. Hoping I'll avoid it this year, too; it does not sound like a good time.

I love my part of Inventory.. sitting at a table listening to music and writing down Financials for things they can't scan.
I would not want to be doing SKU Checks and zoneing/putting the shoe department back together after they scanned though. Last year I cussed them out because they wear throwing shoes from One box to another for no effing reason.

Even way back when I first started at Target over a decade ago they started the backroom part of inventory at 6PM. They do this so the can be done with the back by the time the store closes and send those people with newly arriving floor people. If you tried to do it all starting at 10PM you end up with them not bring complete before the store opens. This is one thing Target does right.

I wish my ETLs would have made an announcement to the sales floor that the back room is CLOSED during inventory.

Sales Floor TM/TL: "Back room, can you check this item for me?"
Me: "sure, what's the DPCI?"
SF: "------"
Me: "We have three"
SF: "Can you pull one?"
Me: "No. No I cannot."

It happened more than once.

Some TMs at my store have been scheduled 6:30p-5:00a for inventory. It almost seems like it would be fun.

Almost.

Why would you not just tell them Backroom is closed for inventory? Or lie and say you have none? I'd be pretty pissed if I was the guest looking for the item and I heard that exchange.

Inventory was always fun for me. I work backroom prep pretty much every year and it's always a easy laid back week. Compared to the rest of the year when I'm in a rush wondering if I'm gonna get my work done. Even on actual inventory night doing sku checks it was pretty much was just walking around my area waiting.

I've been with target 21 years. It's ALWAYS at 5-6pm starting in the back room. Then they do jewelry and camera boat before they start the rest of the sales floor. It has ALWAYS worked just fine.

What happens if you count everything in your section while logging it in the pda and you forget to press finish? would the system be able to tell that you didn't do the inventory count for that section?
