When my current store opened in 2005 we had the STL, ETL-HR, ETL-Rx, ETL- LOG, ETL-AP, ETL- SL, ETL- GE, and 2 ETL-HL.

Now we have STL, ETL-HR, ETL-RX, ETL-LOG, ETL-AP, ETL-GE, and ETL- SF. So we actually only lost two ETLs over the last 10ish years.

In 2005 my store had 4 GSTLs (one of whom was basically the Photo TL), 1 FATL, 1 Sbux TL, 1 RxTL, 1 Presentation TL, 1 PATL, 2 Backroom TLs (one early am, one dayside), 2 Flow TLs, 1 Electronics TL, 7 HLTLs, 1 Company Space TL (later transitioned to Instocks TL when that rolled out), and 4 SLTLs. So 26 TLs in all. We also had 6 specialists (electronics, entertainment, shoes, jewelry, cash office, and photo lab) who were treated as leaders in their department and were recognized as leaders (just didn't officially coach or write reviews. So basically 32 full time hourly leaders.

Now we have 2 GSTLs, 1 FATL, 1 Sbux TL, 1 PPTL, 1 Logistics TL, 1 Flow TL, 5 Sales Floor TLs, and we'll soon get 1 VML. So we're down to 13. We lost half of our TLs over the last 10 years. 13 TL spots just gone. Plus we no longer have specialists, so there's 6 other leaders in their department gone although we have 2 GSAs. Basically lost 17 full time hourly leadership roles.

Our ETLs complain that their jobs are in jeopardy and they have so much work to do all the time. I'm sure these are valid concerns, but your hourly leaders are already living that reality. We literally lost over half our leadership in the past 10 years.

And then Target wonders why guest survey scores are down and stores are empty and look like crap a lot of the time.
