OPU first shift before on-floor training.

Okay, so I just got done with all the computer work a new hire has to go through today. I used to work GM and Market years ago, and now I am assigned Fulfillment. Was given a schedule, barely any hours, somewhat expected. Go onto the schedule app to try to get more hours, find one for Sunday, pick it up. Issue is I thought it was next Sunday, but it was this Sunday instead, two days before my on-floor training.

So, I messed up. Call up HR, they say to come in tomorrow anyways, which seems like a horrible idea.

I understand how to the store layout works and how to pull from the backroom, but I am a bit iffy on OPU-specific things.

So my questions, to help me be able to actual do the job I'm not trained for yet:

1. After starting a batch, scanning the cart, and finding the first thing on the list, I know you scan the item (or the shelving barcode if its a backroom item, then the item) and place it into the cart. Then scan the cart section that they are placed in. My question is how do I know which section to put the item in? Is it like the backroom where you can slot it in where ever it fits? Or does the device tell me what section?

2. After the batch is pulled, I understand that I scan a printer, which then prints the barcode for the bag. I slap the barcode on the bag, then does it tell me which items to put into the bag? What if the bag becomes full?

3. I know batches are separated into categories, so I'm hoping I can just take on the GM or bulky batches if another TM is with me (which I very much hope so) since I am not super knowledgeable about food safety protocol yet. But it is a 6am shift, so I think it would be less likely.

Number 3 isn't even a question. At this point I'm just looking for any guidance to make tomorrow not awful since HR was not much help... any insight is appreciated.

At my store they would never let you do batches without training first. My store usually has 2 team members come in at 4am and 2 or 3 at 6am. For fulfillment. If your store is the same there should be at least one person to train you. Depending on how long ago you last worked at Target fulfillment may be different. I work drive so, I don’t know much about picking but, when d/u is slow I stow carts for fulfillment. When stowing you scan the item first then a sticker will print. The device will give you a list of items for each guest in your batch. Scan the first item put in bag put sticker on bag. Continue scanning items until bag is full or you have no more items for that guest. After bag is full scan the barcode on the cart or your own if you Made one. Remember common sense don’t put chemicals in the same bag with food, no heavy items with bread etc. sodas get one sticker per pack don’t scan them into one bag. Same with cases or gallons of water one sticker for each. Scan the soda or water put sticker on then scan cart before scanning next.Once done filling bags it will ask you do you want to stow say yes. To stow scan the barcode then scan the Waco you are putting bag in. Hopes this helps somewhat. At my store all of the drive up knows plenty about stowing and some do drive and fulfillment so don’t be afraid to ask questions.sorry this long and probably very grammatically incorrect. Good luck.🍀👍

Another fyi at my store all fulfillment team members are trained on drive up and sometimes get scheduled for that. Not sure if all stores do that but, I know some do. It is also possible at some point you may get register trained. At my store fulfillment team almost never does checkout.
