When doing research on your set day, how do you do your task list?

With a PDA I'll be in a softlines list but without actually on a research item. I'm just looking for a table that's on my list, then I'll click on that, do my research and back out of the list. With an iPod I think I just scan tables and see if it moves me to that list? I don't remember its been a few weeks since I got to actually research in softlines.
Somebody at our store hit on the idea of just hitting "research done" on the whole list then actually researching in Standalone. Though I guess the higherups at our store don't like that idea from what I heard. Not sure how I feel about it yet either.
