Speak to your area, or throw your ETL under a bus.
 
Make sure to be on your phone, know nothing about what is going on in your work center, make sure your TMS are completely clueless about what they are doing and throw your ETL under the bus. Especially in front of them....
 
DTL visits are normally basically a tour of the store. You walk the store with them, show them what's going on, what you're proud of, what you're struggling with and what plans you have in place to address what you're struggling with. They'll tell you if they see something they don't like. I always be sure to know which depts are up in sales month to date and I'll mention it accordingly as we walk by those depts.
 
Pretty sure it goes a lot deeper than just that.
