Hey all, got hired as a full time Inbound-GM associate.

I literally called and they gave me the job over the phone. No video interview or application. But hey!

Anyway, I'm trying to get back on my feet living with my parents as of now while I finish school (I'm 21) and I'm trying to move out next year. Anyway, enough background, I've read around here and have seen some firing stories, and I'm not sure if its just due to performance or attendance or whatever else.

I'm starting next Saturday after orientation, and I'm getting the 5a-1p/6a-2p shifts.

Any tips on doing well and staying here for at least a year and a couple months?

Welcome back! The first key to staying at Spot is attendance, attendance, and, attendance. Keep yours good and you have a chance at staying. Also, be productive, be flexible, and be aware of the fact that whatever management asks you, they hate to hear the word “no”. If they ask you to come in early or stay late or help with ship, or whatever, yes is the magic word. That’s one of the keys to getting more hours, and the other is cross training after your basic training is complete.

Nothing personal, but just generally, there are a few don’ts, too, starting with don’t abuse the discount privilege, don’t take anything that doesn’t belong to you (not saying that you would. Just saying what gets you canned quickest and maybe jailed), never forget that there are cameras everywhere and they’re not just there for looks. Over time, AP misses nothing. Follow all rules about purchasing mark-downs and clearance (another chance for a quick exit), follow the dress code, follow the break schedule if there is one, don’t miss taking your meal break before 5th/6th hour (your leaders will tell you which) and comply with whatever Flavor of the Month type rule management is currently obsessing over. Stay away from drama and get along with your co-workers, don’t stand around talking with other TMs or use your phone while working for non-work reasons. Loafing is a thing, and it’s not a positive thing in the eyes of management. Work safe and follow all safety rules. Treat the guests (and everyone, really,) like you would like to be treated.

Basically follow your schedule, do your work and don’t be a PITA to management and you should be fine. Good luck!
