Is there a time frame or is it just you can never do this? I know the super against the rules way was to ring up purchase scan discount than suspend transaction and than buy a gift card for that amount. That was the super shady way. Can people buy gift cards and use them later? I have bought gift cards with the intentions of giving them out as gifts but later changing my mind.

If you didn't buy the gift card with a non-Target credit or debit card, you should be fine.

Why not buy the gift card with cash? If you want to buy something without leaving evidence, cash is the way to go.
