So, our uniform AP guy (sorry, don't quite get all the AP acronyms) was working the other day, but was wearing red and khaki (no name tag) and appeared to be helping out hardlines (no PDA). Now, I'm not saying he was working hardlines, but that's how it appeared, and being up front, I only saw him when he passed by. I gave him a confused look, and he just gave me a vague non-answer when I asked what was up. I knew better than to push it, so I figured I'd ask you all...what in the world was he up to?

he is watching somebody or an area.

We don't have a uniformed AP guy anymore. Just the top AP guy because our store doesn't have a high crime volume....besides, there are other Targets near us that need more APers than we do.

I don't get the acronyms for AP either.

Our ETL-AP and AP-TL (is that what he's called?) wear red and khaki. The AP TMs wear uniforms. I don't know what their positions are called either.

You're thinking of a uniformed TPS member? I believe it stands for Target Protection Specialist.

It's better not to ask anybody in AP questions. Rarely will you get answers.

APL - Assets Protection Leader (usually when there are no TPS TMs)
APTL - Assets Protection Team Leader (TL over TPS TMs)
TPS - Target Protection Specialist
IS - Investigations Specialist
APBP - Assets Protection Business Partner
ETL-AP - Executive Team Lead - Assets Protection
(I think I'm missing one...)

So, are IS the undercover people that pop in and out of my store at random?

That would be APS. Undercover that stays at one store (as opposed to IS, who travels between stores).

Yep! That was it! I knew it was very similar to TPS, lol.

Honestly its impossible to know why they were doing this. A TPS wouldn't go undercover in his own store to watch a TM because I think the TM would know who he is. AP just helps on the floor sometimes. Could be as innocent as that.

TPS get their hours cut too.
Guess he might have been doing a swap shift?
Can they?

Possible that he's just helping out with the store. TPS that already has their guard card that are wearing the uniform will never go red and khaki to follow someone on the sales floor. The APS are the ones in plain clothes doing the physical surveillance in a single store. IS on the other hand normally cover the district, sometimes the whole group. I'm an IS by the way.

only position you can't work in another area.

There may have been a certain event going on in your store that called for the TPS to go red and khaki. Like maybe working early morning *cleaning domes, moving cameras, or helping out with the M&M return scans for example. I sometimes do. But no TPS should be working another area...our hours dont come from your guys hours...id be mad as hell...

Or his uniform got destroyed/messed up some how.... sounds logical to me.

Also yes dont get to nosy asking AP questions....those throw up redflags to us...innocent or not.

I only gave him the same strange look that everyone else gave him and asked what in the world he was doing in red and khaki (I guess knowing I wouldn't get an answer) and then let it drop. I'd like to think working service desk I have a pretty good working relationship with AP. I don't ask questions beyond, "how do you want me to handle x situation?" and give them heads up and details on stuff when I see weird stuff that might be of interest to them.
