We got a spicy pillow (a slightly inflated walkie battery) and no one knows what to do with it. It's been sitting in the equipment room for days (a walkie with a back cover that wasn't on correctly) until I investigated. It's sitting out back on concrete with a warning sign on it right now because the PML isn't here and the new receiver doesn't know what to do with it. Can't find anything on workbench. What do I do with it??

According to the Battery Recycling Guide on workbench you just tape the terminals and toss them in ESIM?? That CANNOT be right for an inflated battery. I submitted a chatbot. We'll see.

Aside from throwing it into a baler on the Fourth of July, requisitioning an empty plastic storage bin from the backroom, labeling it, and isolating the battery for your stores ESIM contractor to pick up is probably your best move I think. I’m talking out of my ass though, ideally your receiver has these answers but you mentioned yours being very new

Get a 10 gallon bucket. Pour wet cement about halfway up, put the walkie battery in directly in the middle, carefully pour the rest til its full. Allow 1 week to dry.

Alternatively, bring it to Office Depot for their battery recycling person to handle.

But in all seriousness I have no idea and will be interested to learn the proper handling.

Back in the day there used to be a flip chart in reverse logistics that outlined the steps to take for almost any possible type of accident or incident. I can’t recall the name of it, but if those flip charts are still available, it might be worth taking a look at it to see if damaged batteries are covered. Good luck, hope you find an answer.

If it's a LiPo (lithium polymer) battery Best Buy, Home Depot and/or Lowes have recycling bins. Never mishandle one of those, they are prone to gas leakage and in some cases spontaneous combustion can occur. A LiPo fire can be very difficult to extinguish. Be careful.
