Hello fellow redshirts! Longtime lurker first time poster lol. I am curous I have been with the company almost 10yrs and find myself in need of a second part time job to keep a roof over my dogs head. My question is do I tell spot or keep mum? Its a store in a mall so its ot huge hours but litttle by little helps :/ thoughts?

Depends on your position, your current availability that is in the system, and how much management likes or values you. I was able to get part time job a few years back because I was on Instocks so I was working mornings at Target and would work nights and one of my off days at the second job.

Depends how you feel they would react. If you think it might be used as an excuse to cut your hours even more, don't say anything. If you think they'll be supportive and accommodating, feel free to tell them.

My store has known about my other job since before I was hired, and they've been more than accommodating by letting me have availability that excludes working on Sundays or closing shifts.

Availability is open. Im just sales floor and always close. Technically im a brand memeber but ive been told several times im not part of the vml team so idk what my title is really. The new job has no problems working around target but i dont want spot gettin hot under the collar thinkin im being deceptive. Management doesnt care for me but i have good attendence and grind my knuckles when on the clock :/ so essentially if i should sit down with hr if i dont think they will snarl and pull the choke chain?

My store doesn't mind when people work elsewhere, we know it's hard to make it just off a Target check that said if you work at a competitor like Wal-Mart I would not share that as it may cost you your job

@HRZone oh no lol I wouldnt be that insane its just a new specialty store in the mall and its temporary until after the grand opening from there I may need to re evaluate but our store is strangely void on hours alot lately (more so than typical) and I just cant do that anymore with my new home situation :/ I just dont want to open my mouth and chok on my ankle but also dont want to seem like a weasel. Honestly I havent spoken to my hr much since she started

Really, I would talk to your ETL. It's not usually a problem, unless it drastically reduces your availability or is a direct competitor. Let him know that you have this great opportunity to earn a few extra dollars during the grand opening, and since hours are low, it would really help. Stress that you are not going to limit your availability. As HRZONE says, they know it's tough to make it on low hours.
