Hi all!

I'm currently a TSS part-time and have finally hit my 90-day mark. I've been very vocal with my AP-ETL about wanting to be promoted within for an HR position. I already work full-time in HR. I took the TSS position to make more money on the side but developed an interest in being here more long-term. My AP-ETL was fully onboard. My SD even came and talked to me and was onboard with it as well. During my 90 check-in, my AP-ETL told me that our ETL-HR said to wait until after quarter 4, possibly early 2024. I was a bit hesitant about this info so I spoke to my ETL-HR to get a better understanding. However, HR told me that he never said that and I could apply anytime. He told me I should apply as an HR Expert or a HR TL where available, but he doesn't think I'd get an ETL role. At this point, I was getting too many different answers. I finally just applied for some ETL-HR, HR TL, and HR Specialist roles. I ended up getting a virtual interview request for an HR TL role and was contacted by a recruiter for one of the HR ETL roles I applied for. He told me that my application passed the initial review and is being sent to the hiring manager and HR leader. I'm so happy I took it into my own hands instead of listening to everyone around me. I know it's hard going from TM to ETL or a Corp role so I'm grateful that my ETL application is even being considered. Has anyone else gone from TM to ETL? How long did the process take? This position is in my district and I really want it. I know it's a lot of work, but I don't mind working.

Do you have prior experience in HR or leadership? I don't want to be a downer but that is the generic email they send back after you apply. Not saying you won't get it. Good luck.

Aw okay. Thank you for your honesty. I do have prior experience in HR and leadership. I'm currently in an HR position full-time now. I just do Target part-time. I do have other interviews lined up outside of Target so I'm not completely banking on it. I just enjoy all of the great people I've met at other stores and my current store. I'd love to be apart of it more, but if I don't then oh well.

It’s my understanding that you have to become team lead before you can become EtL. Outside hires sometimes skip Lead and go straight to ETL. Things may have changed I’m not sure.

Yeah I mean I'm not saying you definitely aren't getting it. As long as you haven't had any red flags in your first 90 days it's actually probably better you are new. They are extremely picky when promoting within.

Your sd has to sign off for you to interview for a promotion.
You may have just burned a bridge.

I made sure to keep my record squeaky clean. Never called out. I always clock in 2 minutes before my shift. I do what I'm supposed to do. I make positive relationships with everyone. It wasn't all for the promotion. That's just how I am as a person at work. But as a person who does work on the corporate side, I do understand business is business so I'm totally fine if I don't get it. I have other interviews lined up outside of Target. It'd just be nice if I could stay with them. If not, it is what it is!

We had a team member promote to ETL HR. Like you, she had prior experience elsewhere.
Target hires ETLs straight out of school that did an internship with no relevant work experience.

Our current HR ETL is one of them and IMHO doesn't nearly have the experience to handle a job in a place with over 200 employees.

That being said keep your options open on don't let Target string you along for months.

A lot of companies do that these days under the guise of looking for the right candidate and make you interview four or five times.

It seems that companies (not just Target) think you are not looking anywhere else in the meantime.
