I was cashiering today and lady was buying some Valentine's Day Market Pantry rice crispy treats, when I scanned them the computer prompted me to not sell them, printed out a piece of paper to put on the item, and told me to call a supervisor to key in their numbers. I've never seen that before, does this mean the item was recalled?

Yup, I am a PA and was the person who got to go hunting for every single one of these we had in the store..

It wasn't bad, we only had like 20 of them, they were recalled.

My former Hitler(GSTL) a;ways seemed to blame the cashiers when this happened, heaven forbid we disturb her yakkety-yak sessions with guests to do her JOB>

That is an MIR. It's a QA MIR to be exact- Quality Assurance Merchant Initiated Return. The Reverse Logistics team member gets to deal with that among other things, but with QA recalls it also gives notifications to the LOD and other people. In short, many important people get the message to pull that off the sales floor very early in the morning, that item should not reach the register. If it does though, it's not able to be sold for a reason.

If your leader gives you grief for that, just know it's 100% not your fault. Don't stir up trouble, but you could ask why the LOD, consumables TL, ETL over consumables, and reverse logistics team member all missed pulling that item. Just go easy on the reverse logistics team members, we do our best and don't get paid very well.

It happens. Last month there was that bag of chocolate espresso nuts, then yesterday the Valerian root supplement.

They didn't have much choice on the Valerian root after Consumer Lab tested it and found it was mostly ground up peas, rice, allium, and asparagus.

Yeah, I was reading about that and the other stores they tested. Not surprising.

This actually happened to me the other day! They gave me a cashier shift (heaven knows why, I'm not desperate for hours, hate cashiering, and salesfloor is my main workcenter) and someone came through with a bottle of valerian root. When I scanned it, the printer shot out a receipt and said DO NOT SELL THIS ITEM!!!! and to call supervisor. I knew it was a recall, the mydevices will actually tell you if a product is recalled, but I've never seen it while cashiering.

Our most recent one was st patrick's day T-shirts for some reason. I had a guest who was convinced it was political correctness and anti-irish sentiment. I told him I'd look into it.

I'm glad that I found this thread because I had the same situation where a guest bought a container of Tostidos dip, and it prompted for supervisor numbers. I got some assurance that team members can find out if an item is on recall through the mydevices, but I know that most of you are so busy with other tasks that it can be difficult to get to everything in a timely manner.
The guest was definitely angry about it and I had to apologize to him about it.
Just curious though, for example if there is a recall on a certain product, is it likely there is a recall on a similar product from the same brand? In my situation above, does that mean there would be a recall on other Tostidos products?

It is my understanding that food recalls are often manufacturing plant specific, along with date ranges and location/plant/date for ingredients making up the item. So similar is often just fine.

For your dip, it could be the onions were from a bad source, but later that day more dip was made in the same plant with onions from a different source. That's why lot numbers are nearly always included in food recalls that aren't something crazy like all California romaine lettuce.

Edit: Even if the recall is about metal pieces or cross contamination, manufacturing plants don't have just one conveyor and one oven. So a belt on one line could be broken or covered with peanut oil, but the 5 next to it fine. Lot numbers are for that differentiation too.

So POS indicates a recalled item, prints out the little slip for all product to be pulled and all product is pulled. 20 minutes later, LOD scans the item on a zebra to see recall notice and nothing pops up. Ringing up item at register also no longer shows recall....WHAT THE HELL?

HQ has definitely been lagging when it comes to recalls the last couple of months. There are eye drops that have gone on recall and then released a few times. Just got an alert yesterday saying that we should be disposing it via ESIM when it was supposedly safe to sale a few days earlier.

Not necessarily. Like those muffin( which are vendor ) bites we sell all kind of flavors but only one was recall.

Was a hold recall and 20 minutes the final disposition was hold release recall which means was ready to be returned to the floor.

One dpci had instructions to toss. The other two dpcis go esim.:rolleyes:

Stores different in volume and area of the country may have different styles. I had another one yesterday. I felt bad pulling them because the counters where worthy of being a zone porn before I had to pull them. Our shoe team member was great about having to rework to fill the empty space I had created. It has just become routine that every transition in shoes will have multi recalls.

I don't even know what that means. All I know is that I pulled about 20 boxes of Amy's Cheddar and Broccoli noodle bake or whatever it is called, only to have to not be a recalled item 20 minutes later.

It has me pull a QA of tall boots and low heels in the same day earlier this week. This one had 6-11 size with .5 and w variations. Another come today, QA of low boots and ballet shoes. Luckily this one didn’t have w variations. There’s barely any room on my recall hold section since the first QA so the new QA is on a flat by the receivers desk.

Was there mold on the shoes? Softlines TMs told me that but I told them it was a quality issue.

We only got the recall once and a day or two later, 2 QAs were ESIM and 1 QA was toss (with an big ESIM exception listed in the QA). The other receiver made a joke that the toss QA was just water and were ripping people off. I opened it and tasted the toss QA. Definitely tasted like a chemical.

There were boots that were recalled A New Day Annalysse( spelling). You could see the mildew/mold. A New Day flats were recalled for a "safety" issue, whatever that means. Universal thread Everly flats in 2 colors. And A New Day leopard ankle boot. Can't wait for new set. I need shoes and boots, lol!
