Hey! So let me preface this with saying I really like retail. I'm good at it. Selling people on a product is fun to me, and the side of me that loves to organize things digs the zoning process of retail. I've been at a Walmart in the Electronics/Photo/Wireless/Toy dept for almost five years now. It's been pretty okay. I transferred one store because the management team ran a skeleton crew, and things were GLORIOUS at my new Walmart store. However, now since Walmart started handing out raises they've cut hours massively. I've never had weeks of only 9 hours before (I'm part time but still...I'm used to 20-30 hours!). I've got 9 hours this week, 16 next week, and I'm not even scheduled on the week after that. So I'm needing a change of venue. I'd like to stay in retail. So one of my buddies works at a Target overnight and says that his store is hiring and I should apply.
My local Target is hiring for "Sales Floor Team Member." From what I've gathered from the job description, it seems as though it's essentially like maintaining the sales floor? Putting back returns, zoning all depts, etc. I kind of dig that. I've never done an entire store before but...I'd assume people are put into certain areas or something? Would we work freight and set displays up too or is that another team? Do Sales Floor Team Members also man a register?
Has anyone else made the jump from Walmart to Target...or even vice versa? Trying to get a handle on the different environments.
I'm sorry if this isn't the forum for it. My buddy couldn't tell me much about the position but told me posting on this website might help a bit. I'm definitely going to leave my current job if the next schedule they give me has less than 25 hours. Just trying to find something better, and I kind of like what I see at Target, but I'm not sure how it works on the inside.
