So, who exactly has the power to grant Supervisor access on the register?

When I was helping out at another store, the ETL-GE was able to give me access. Tonight, my ETL-HR attempted to give me access. She was unable to do so.

Who has the power to grant access? Is it the normal process where you go to the GSL Menu, and "Team Member Ringing Status", or something else?

Anyone who currently has supervisor functions on the register can change someone's register status. The only people capable of having supervisor functions are brand team members, assistants, gsas, tls, and hr team members. You are correct the way to change a status is to hit K4 (GSTL) and the I think K1 or whatever says team member status.

There is actually a place on Inside POS that will tell you everyone's current ringing status and the maximum possible for each person.

The only way to get supervisor access is to be keyed into a position that allows supervisor access. I know when I first transitioned to GSA in the spring I had to wait for the promotion to work its' way through Targets computers before the register would give me access. Knowing corporate this took a couple weeks...

When I was at a neighboring store, why did the system have the option to make me a Supervisor? Is information like that on a store-by-store basis?

I'm just a lowly Guest Service Team Member (though I've basically done everything in the building..) and I have supervisor numbers. BUT, then again there's some people I work with that cover GSTL all the time and don't have them. Hmm.

ETL-RX and SrTL both tried to give me access tonight, but no go. RX said that other stores have given those keyed under the "Specialty" tree (pharmacy, photo, etc) access to override prompts in Pharmacy, and he didn't know why I couldn't get it.

I'm going to check with my STL this week, and see if he has the ability or knowledge to do so.

if you're a photo assistant you should be able to be keyed as a supervisor. I use to cover gstl breaks when i was just a GSTM but they could never give me access.. once i was keyed in as the photo assistant i was instantly able to have a supervisor number. The GSTL at my store gave it to me. I cover gstl shifts and breaks all the time though and am scheduled at least one shift per week including closing ones.

My store's volume doesn't qualify for a photo assistant. I'm keyed as a photo TM. Our former photo specialist was the same as you, he constantly covered shifts/breaks/gaps in coverage.

I believe this report is gone... But i haven't had a chance to look around since they updated inside POS

I used to be a GSTL before a sales floor TL. Anyone with supervisor status has the ability to change the access level for anyone else. (there are 4 levels - cashier, guest service, supervisor, and administrator) Administrator is *not* available to anyone in the store, and only exists for IT people. I know this because one of the Gentronics guys explained the access levels to me about 3 years ago. He even logged in the register and showed me the access level screen - sure enough he was listed as administrator.

Also corporate defines what job codes can be what levels. So, for example, logistics TMs can only be set to cashier and not guest service or above. This is not controlled by anyone in the store - it is preset by HQ and no one in the store can change it. Basically if you are a job code that HQ has decided is not supposed to ever have a certain access level, then no one at the store can do anything about it.

Under POS/store reports/team member reports: it will show catagories, select 'all'. It brings up a list of TMs & TLs in order of TM# & their ringing status. ETLs & AP weren't listed last time I checked.

So, short of being keyed as a GSA... I'm SOL?

I've been able to give people supervisor access.. We had some new Salesfloor TLS who weren't keyed in so i gave it to them haha.

I think certain people can't get supervisor access, like cashiers etc. but I know service desk TMs + Photo had it available when i looked.

Static, ask your Gstl for an upgrade of access. It may depend on your loa status from before.

The following have already tried to key me in:

GSA
GSTL
Sr Salesfloor TL
ETL-HR
ETL-RX

None of them were able to key me in. STL is looking in to it.

From my understanding your job code has to be one that CAN be a supervisor like this post says, and if you are then anyone with supervisor access can change it for you! However, you used to be able to key in anyone you wanted as a supervisor since the POS didn't pay attention to your job title... and if you had it unlocked already, it remained unlocked as far as I can tell! For example, I was a salesfloor TM (keyed for guest service) but then was keyed as a logistics TM and was still allowed the guest service access... I am not sure how it works if you took the guest service option away, if it would not allow you to upgrade it again?

Yeah, the previous photo specialist was keyed as a supervisor to cover GSTL shifts, but when the transition occurred he was keyed as a photoTM, but retained his access. It's likely the same reason you kept your service desk access, as you were grandfathered in.

*shrugs*

Are Electronics TM's capable of having Supervisor access? I by chance saw the report on Inside POS for our store, and saw that a regular old electronics TM, who was hired at the same time I was, was capable of having Supervisor access, even though he was set to Ring Sales Only.

Seems odd I guess, kinda defeats the whole purpose of getting an override for keying DOB's, etc.

My elec/mmb brand TMs both have Supervisor access. So, yes.

I second this. Just like even if you know the service desk but aren't service desk "trained", meaning your training packet doesn't have a service desk section, your numbers cannot be changed to function with the service desk registers. This means you can pretty much do everything except payments. I just changed the ringing status of one of our seasonal TM's who is now a permanent TM from "ringing sales only" to "service desk". No one should be changing your ringing status unless your ETL-HR or ETL-GE says otherwise. This goes along with the quote posted below.

Hello it’s 2019, but have the changed the access for gsa/gstl. My Gsa tried to give me access using the K4 (Gstl)and K2 (team status) and I typed my team member number, but the option for K3(supervisor access) wasn’t there. Have the changed that, what is the process in order for her to give me the access?

Depends what you are keyed for as your work center. That said they made it so most could get supervisor access now...
