Target CIO resigns in wake of data breach

Target Corp. Chief Information Officer Beth Jacob has resigned, effective immediately, in the wake of the major data breach that hit the retailer late last year.

Minneapolis-based Target plans to overhaul its information-security team and will conduct an external search for an interim CIO who can help guide the company through that process, said Chairman, President and CEO Gregg Steinhafel in a statement.

"While we are still in the process of an ongoing investigation, we recognize that the information-security environment is evolving rapidly," Steinhafel said. "To ensure that Target is well positioned following the data breach we suffered last year, we are undertaking an overhaul of our information-security and compliance structure and practices at Target."

He said the company also will elevate the role of the chief information security officer and will hire externally for that position. And it's starting an external search for a chief compliance officer.

Target notes that its current vice president of assurance risk and compliance had already planned to retire at the end of the month, so it decided to split the responsibilities for assurance risk and compliance.

I wonder how many more people's heads will start rolling?
